Just got back from my China trip this morning. Did I miss anything interesting for this yr's NDP? I heard from one of my staff that some white monkies were moving about and talking to each other when the national antemn was on. Is it true?

Did not noticed any one moving during national anthem leh. Maybe due to my yawning most of the time bah.

I only saw the surprise look on our President's face when the air force did a fly-past with their latest toys... The gulf-stream and the F-15.

Wonder what goes through his mind at that moment.....

The last time he saw airplanes flew overhead....was most likely hiding in the coconut grove & Japanese Mitsubishi zeroes was overhead & he was thinking to himself, "I might not live to 80 years old"...the F15 & whatever..."deja vu".....only now he is the highly paid 'watchman' with many duplicate keys....ha ha ha ha ha:D

He is thinking what species of birds is flying......
How to write bird in Chinese :)

After seeing MM, i'm pretty sure he will not be shown in NDP2011

You notice our dear MM teary eyed when GKS's pictures were shown. He was holding back his emotions for sure at the mentioned of the departed comrade.

Grate Leeder was weak and wobbly - had great difficulty getting out of his car. SR was too weak to inspect the first row of the GOH on foot, as he usually did. He got on to the Land Rover immediately after the presidential salute.

And we have a crescent moon on our flag to signify a 'young nation'!

You didn't miss anything. Silver serpent can never think out of the box to be creative. For the past 40 years, the parade is so predictable (a gang of goons swaying here and there to sing DICK's songs) including PAP flying their own party flag in the field to tell the world Singapore = PAP. Anyway, it was rather quiet after that because next day everyone needs to rush back to work to make ends meet.

Flags of Muslim countries always have the crescent moon on their flags.

It is very silly to have a specific symbol for a nation arising on a flag unless the country is planning to change their flag when it finally matures into a developed nation (changing the crescent moon into a full moon perhaps?)

Every year they dish out the same old show. It is merely repackaging a tired old theme i.e. how we rose like a phoenix from the ashes when no one gave us a chance. We believed, we prospered and we achieved! From obscurity, from small fishing village to one huge urban hub of everything! We are the greatest!
:D:D

fireworks too short;
prataman cannot walk anymore;
tanks all ancient model;

Perhaps you do not know the reasons for having the five stars and the crescent. According to an account given by the Old Man himself - the Chinese population wanted the five stars and the Muslim population wanted the crescent. Both these symbols were then combined to create the Singapore flag. Believe what the crescent and the star represent was a afterthought.

Cheers

the story i heard was the flag designers liked to eat at 5 star chicken rice so much that they put it on the flag.
