One thing for sure their rice, big fat rice (tend to be too much water) cannot beat our Thai rice nasi-lemak. Better still is to use basmati rice like in Adam Road hawker centre.

Penang food has got a unique, their local flavor, which is not the same as in SINgapore, though the name of the dish maybe the same, for instance, their "cai tow kuay" come with "tau gay" ( beans sprout), their Laksa comes in three flavors, curry version ( we call curry noodle), Thai version ( Penang style), & their famous Penang laksa.

Our Nasi Lemak, have different version too. The local here with their mismatch Malay..call it lasi ( as in lah) lomak ( as in low, & mark)..

Was in Jakarta this week. Ate their soto ayam. Have its different from Singapore. Whether niceer or not I think it does not matter because sometimes it could be subjective due to habits and taste to each culture or location. I'm fedup with people who like to argue :oh we invented chicken rice" ; : "we invented bak-kuk-teh" ; "we invented char-kuay-teow" etc etc etc, my point is there is no need to argue about this, we just need to agree to disagree. For example prawn noodles in Singapore and Malaysia, they're both totally different style and taste no need to argue who invented it both are unique by itself. So is the bak-kut-teh in Malaysia and Singapore etc etc. Hainanese Chicken Rice cannot be found in Hainan Island or if one can its a totally different thing. So I really cannot understand why people has to be so "nationalistic" about food.

Just enjoy food and it will make this world a nicer place.

Wah!! Well said lah!!

Up you points though machiam it's like only a drop in the ocean.

Anyway I prefer those cheapo $1.50 wrapped in coconut leaf type.

Also because that's all that I can afford. :D
