MPs should live in the Constituency they represent!!

The opposiition should ask how many MPs are actually living in the constituency they represent. How can u represent people if u are not living there and aware of the problems unique to their area? The MP office is useless as they are only visiting it on an occasionally visit. The MPs must be made to live there, shop there, walk among the people they represent on a daily basis, send their children to the same schools in the area, etc. Most countries do it like this, including the US. If the PAP claim to truly represent the people, they must do this and back their words up.

They should have the option of not staying in a HDB flat if they don't want. But its true that in other countries, MPs usually stay in the constituency area which they serve.

For example, Kevin Rudd is a Queensland native in Australia. Naturally as an MP, he represents the Griffith area over there. President Obama's home state is Illnois, and his hometown is Chicago. He used to be the state senator which represented the Hyde Park, and South Side of Chicago.

Problem with you is that you see everything as pro-PAP or anti-PAP. If you observe, Sam has a certain set of principles. Firstly, he hates welfare. Secondly, he hates employees who behave like their employers owe them a living. But he thinks Singapore is screwed up in other ways.

U must be joking. Every square foot of the country is fucked up, but some areas are more fucked up than others. u just go around to the various estates and u can tell the difference.

That's too strict a criteria brother. Even Obama's Hyde Park home in Chicago is not in the middle of a slum. And his kids, before they went to Sidwell Friends in D.C was studying in his former university's school for elementary-going kids, which annual fees were like $22,000 per year- equivalent to what is an annual uni tuition fee for anyone studying in Australia and New Zealand.

There's where a system should be set up to ensure there's little abuse of the system, so that politicians cannot abuse the system to ensure he gets undue privileges.

I mean, for example, say that if the pipes in Obama's Hyde Park home burst, they cannot use the city's water department to fix the pipe, even though Obama was an US Senator at that time. They may have had to use their own money to hire people to fix those pipes.
