Man Utd v Liverpool: Uefa could investigate fans' behaviour

Seats were thrown by supporters at Old Trafford

Manchester United and Liverpool could face Uefa action after fans lit flares and were involved in scuffles during the Europa League last-16 second leg at Old Trafford.

Radio 5 live's Ian Dennis reported that punches were thrown while the police had to form a "human wall" to protect Liverpool fans in the United section. Seats were also thrown by supporters.

Great Manchester Police said there had been three 'football-related' arrests including assault and affray.
The game ended 1-1 with Liverpool winning 3-1 on aggregate to progress to the quarter-finals.

Guidelines from Europe's governing body state that host clubs are liable for order and security inside and around the stadium.
All clubs may be subject to disciplinary measures for "inappropriate behaviour on the part of their supporters" including "the throwing of objects", "the lighting of fireworks or any other objects" and "any other lack of order or discipline observed inside or around the stadium".

Before the match had kicked-off, police had to remove a banner on the M602 motorway in Salford designed to taunt Liverpool fans heading to Old Trafford. United fans avoided punishment by Uefa after after some of their fans sang offensive Hillsborough disaster chants during the first leg at Anfield.

History between the two clubs is well known.

Liverpool taunt United over the Munich Air disaster
United do the same over Hillsborough.

All very petty and childish. Both these teams are fast becoming mid table 'has beens'

It's the new era of Leicester City and West Ham United.

Pre-Contract Agreed – Mourinho’s Most Important Potential Signing for Man United

Posted on March 22, 2016 by Soccerisma

Jose-Mourinho-European-Super-Cup-2013-135x135.jpg

Jose Mourinho will be hoping that Manchester United qualify for next season’s Champions League or else he will have to manage the British giants in Europe’s second tier competition Europa League.

The Red Devils have agreed (Daily Mail) a preliminary contract with Jose Mourinho and first challenge is to bring in quality players much needed to reinforce the squad in the summer transfer window.

As far as the potential signings are concerned, the most important signing is that of a world class out and out goal scorer. No team can win the title without a top class finisher in their ranks and United currently lack one. Captain Wayne Rooney is past his best and over the last few seasons he has hardly played consistently as the lone striker upfront.

United splashed heavy cash to lure Anthony Martial last summer but even the French international has been utilized in multiple attacking positions and still needs experience.

Mourinho must sign someone who will score 20+ league goals a season, only then United can dream of winning the title again. The Red Devils have been missing such a striker since the departure of Robin van Persie.

There have been reports suggesting that Mourinho has already agreed (Tribal Football) a deal to bring Gonzalo Higuain to Old Trafford. The Argentine is a world class striker who has played under Mourinho at Real Madrid and will be a brilliant addition.

Higuain has netted 31 goals in 37 games so far for Napoli this season.

Manchester United: Jose Mourinho wants to bring Atletico Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta to Old Trafford
Jose Mourinho's tenure at Manchester United could begin with the Portuguese manager bringing in Atletico Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta to Old Trafford. The former Chelsea man is primed to take over from Louis van Gaal and is already looking at options to rejuvenate the Red Devils next season.

The Telegraph reported that Mourinho is interested in having another body to look after transfers, but it is not sure if United are keen on the idea, having resisted the temptation to make such an addition in the past. The former Chelsea manager is said to have agreed a gentleman's contract with United to take over next season, having recently confirmed that he will be back in management in July, but is yet to sign a formal pre-contract with the club.

Louis van Gaal has flattered to deceive as manager this season, having failed to get past the group stages of the Champions League and falling to Liverpool in the round of 16 tie of the Europa League. He struggled to improve on their position in the league last season, but their latest victory over Manchester City leaves them only a point adrift from a top four spot, something which could still save his job.
In addition to that United are also active in the FA Cup with a quarter-final replay lined up against West Ham after the international break.
Mourinho would be the first major managerial appointment at OldTrafford after Sir Alex Ferguson's departure and should he be given the job, will hope to lead United back to the top from where they have ignominiously fallen over the past few years. The Portuguese man won the title with Chelsea in 2014/15 but a massive downturn of form has seen them all but miss out on a place in the top four, which cost him his job earlier this season.

Jose Mourinho set to eclipse Pep Guardiola to become highest paid boss ever at Manchester United
United are ready to offer a whopping £60m deal to the former Chelsea boss

SPORT-COMP-LANDSCA_2762759a.jpg

  • JOSE MOURINHO will be offered a mind-boggling £60million to sendManchester United soaring back to football’s summit.

The three-year deal dwarfs even the £15m a year which Manchester City are paying Pep Guardiola.
The contract, including bonuses for titles and cups won, will make Mourinho the highest-paid football manager in history.

It is almost double what Louis van Gaal currently earns. And while there has been no pre-contract signed between United and Mourinho, there is a verbal agreement in place that he will take over in May.
The Portuguese boss and his advisors are therefore convinced it is a done deal, which will see him trouser up to £20m a year.

It has long been an ambition of Mourinho’s to take over at Old Trafford. He was stunned when he was overlooked after Alex Ferguson retired in favour of David Moyes.

The Special One ended up back at Chelsea where he won the title last season but was sacked on December 17.
SunSport exclusively revealed on December 21 that United were immediately in contact with Mourinho.
Van Gaal has seen his regime unravel and is beginning to accept he will be out at the end of the season.

[h=1]Memphis Depay set to be axed in summer Manchester United clearout[/h][h=2]Big-money flop one of a number of stars to be shown Old Trafford door[/h]

MEMPHIS DEPAY faces the axe in a Manchester United summer clear-out.
United will listen to offers for their £25million flop after just a year at the club.
Other stars that can go include Morgan Schneiderlin just a season after he arrived from Southampton.

And even defenders Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo face uncertain futures asUnited look to rebuild after a poor campaign.

Boss Louis van Gaal’s position as boss is also under threat, with Jose Mourinho waiting in the wings to take over.

Depay, 22, was billed as the man to inject excitement into United’s attack but flopped big time with his free-kicks ridiculed.
Van Gaal has been urged to “attack, attack, attack” by fans this season and failing to get Depay to fire will be seen as an embarrassment.
Jones has struggled with injury this season and has started just six league games, the last coming at the start of January.

depay should be given more time. its his first season? he needs time to bed down. CR had a crap first season as well.

I agree though the Phil Jones need to go, he is too injury prone and he likes to go forward but cannot hold the ball nor pass the ball properly.

Rojo, i am reserved, he should stay too in my opinion. its not entirely their fault, i blame the stupid tactics that LVG deployed. With his stupid tactic even you have Messi, Suraez and Ronaldo in your team, you will not get anything meaningful out of them.

Louis van Gaal latest: Manchester United manager wanted by Dutch FA this summer

louis-van-gaal-48.jpg

The man who managed the Netherlands to the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup is the favoured choice to become technical director overseeing the Dutch football centre of excellence

The Dutch Football Association want Louis van Gaal to head up the operation to rebuild their national team, by becoming technical director at the helm of the nation’s enhanced football centre of excellence, work on which will be completed this summer.

Van Gaal has offered the same reply to recent questions about him returning to the national set-up, two years after taking the Netherlands to the World Cup semi-final, stating simply: “I am manager of Manchester United.” But there is a growing conviction in the Netherlands that he will step down from Old Trafford this summer and, at the age of 64, that he has the energy and desire to bring the curtain down on his career with a third period with the national federation, who see their Zeist Campus as a launch pad to renewed success.

Van Gaal would have anticipated serving his three years at United, but he indicated to executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward amid the club’s pre-Christmas struggles that he would step down if the club felt he could not take them on. He does not seem to have dipped to such a low ebb in the three months since, but does face a struggle for a top four finish, in what looks like a three-way tussle with Manchester City and West Ham for fourth. United’s run in looks easier than City’s on paper but both club are inconsistent.

The Netherlands’ desire to recruit their most experienced coach has intensified since the national team failed to qualify for this summer’s European Championships, with Bert van Oostveen – director of professional football at the football association (KNVB) - openly touting the idea of creating a technical director position.
Van Oostveen has been at the hub of attempts to prevent the Dutch losing their status as one the continent’s best football nations, after Van Gaal’s achievements in Brazil. Concerns included the greater financial resources available to Eastern European nations to leapfrog a small country such as the Netherlands. Always a regular fixture among the world’s top eight nations, the country has now dropped to 15th, behind such relative continental minnows as Switzerland and Austria, as well as Ecuador.

The Dutch FA has been undertaking research domestically and overseas, designed to assess weaknesses in their system which was arguably under threat at the 2014 Brazil finals, when a lack of creative players led Van Gaal to operate a more conservative 3-5-2 system.

The possibility of Van Gaal taking up a technical director’s position is enhanced by his strong friendship with the current national team manager, Danny Blind – his assistant in Brazil. Blind’s son Daley, signed by Van Gaal at United, was impressive as captain when the Dutch beat England 2-1 at Wembley on Tuesday night.

Though Van Gaal has insisted that he will make the United job his last in management, enabling him to make good on his promise to his wife Trudy that he will retire, the federation hope that their investment in the centre of excellence at Zeist, east of Utrecht, may attract him to work with them again. When returning to Ajax in a technical director's position in 2004 he was frustrated by the limitations attached to the position as a football overseer. He may feel differently about an SOS call now.

Blind, who took over from Guus Hiddink as Holland failed to qualify for Euro 2016, told Algemeen Dagblad in December: "With Van Gaal I could achieve a lot. He is in the top category. But there are also many other options to think of where the shoe could fit.”

Manchester United youngsters believe Louis van Gaal is a 'grandpa' with an outdated management style and want Ryan Giggs to take over at Old Trafford

  • Louis van Gaal has been in charge of Manchester United since May 2014
  • He has come under scrutiny at times this season due to results and style
  • Sportsmail has been told that some of United's players think he's outdated
  • A number of younger players want Ryan Giggs to take over as manager
  • Jose Mourinho tipped to take over but he isn't liked by some United players

Some of Manchester United’s younger players see manager Louis van Gaal as ‘a grandpa’ whose management style is outdated.
Sportsmail has been told that a number of players want assistant manager Ryan Giggs to replace Van Gaal in the Old Trafford hotseat should the Dutchman leave this summer.

United beat Everton 1-0 at home on Sunday but there are a growing number of players who have become disillusioned with their manager’s methods.

‘A lot of them think he is a grandpa and has an out-of-date management style,’ a source claimed.‘A number of players have become frustrated because of the lack of chances under Van Gaal.’
The 64-year-old has handed debuts to a raft of youngsters but there remains scepticism about whether they would have been afforded opportunities had it not been for a chronic injury list and lack of strikers.
One of the main criticisms levelled at Van Gaal is the time he spends talking to some of the players, particularly those who are just breaking through from the academy.

Marcus Rashford and Timothy Fosu-Mensah starred during the victory over Roberto Martinez’s Everton.
Both have benefited from first team football this term but neither spend a major amount of one-on-one time with their boss compared to more senior players such as Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

‘He (Van Gaal) doesn’t speak to the young players and Giggs and [Under 21 manager Warren] Joyce are the only ones who want to encourage the young lads,’ one source said.
‘A lot of them would be very happy if Giggs took over because the players can relate to him. They can’t relate to Van Gaal – he’s too old.’
Jose Mourinho has been widely tipped to become the next incumbent yet his appointment wouldn’t be welcomed by a proportion of players.
‘The players are unsure about Mourinho,’ a source added.
‘I think they don’t believe they will get a chance if he comes in. They talk to the guys at Chelsea and know they never got close - so why would he be any different at United? He’s a businessman.’

I dun think the young players understands how it works at Old Trafford. You need to look at LVG's credentials with youth development with his previous clubs. Give him credit where credit is due. They have absolutely no divine right to be playing at senior level. Like SAF, LVG demands that they prove themselves and it's an opportunity they shouldn't miss.:D

Depay is a bad influence on and off the field. Plays like a schoolboy with absolutely no tactical sense and awareness. Ship him out ASAP.
