Doesn't matter how many good players you have if the manager is a dunce.

Also, Suarez had recently signed a long-term contract with Liverpool. He's not going to move now.

Natural order of things?

Juan Mata: New Man Utd signing keen to link up with Rooney
Manchester United's record signing Juan Mata cannot wait to link up with new team-mate Wayne Rooney.

It has been reported that Mata's £37.1m move from Chelsea could lead to a potential summer switch for Rooney in the opposite direction.

But Rooney, 28, is now in talks with United to extend his contract.

Spain forward Mata, 25, said: "For me, he's one of the best players in the history of this country. He's an unbelievable player."

Mata, who has signed a contract understood to run until summer 2018, could line up alongside Rooney for Tuesday's Premier League game at home to Cardiff City.

"He's a striker who can score, assist and come into midfield to take the ball," added Mata of the England international.

"I will try to connect with him as much as possible and find the gaps in rival defences. I think that's my best style of play, to get into positions where I can assist the strikers."

Mata, who will wear the number eight shirt, also said United's never-say-die attitude meant they could still retain their league title.

"What I like most about this club is the character," said Mata, twice Chelsea's player of the year.

"I think if another club were in this position in the league, it would be very difficult to come back and take first position, but this club can do it.

"This is the real image I have from Manchester United, always fighting to win titles, always coming back from difficult moments."

Analysis Ben Smith BBC Sport: "It was hard not to be impressed by Juan Mata at Manchester United's Carrington training ground. The Spaniard swerved around every awkward question and looked genuinely delighted to be a United player, while always remaining complimentary and respectful about his former employees.

"He was particularly impressed by United's decision to fly him up from London by helicopter for his medical. David Moyes couldn't keep the smile off his face throughout. He is clearly delighted to have got his man."

The former Valencia player scored 32 goals for the Blues and made more than 130 appearances but had failed to command a regular starting place under Jose Mourinho, who returned to Chelsea last summer for a second spell as manager.

Mata, capped 32 times by World and European champions Spain, admitted moving to Old Trafford was "really important" to his hopes of making his country's World Cup squad.

United boss David Moyes said he was surprised the club was able to sign a player of Mata's calibre during the January transfer window.

"I am thrilled," said Moyes, whose team are seventh in the Premier League, 14 points adrift of leaders Arsenal. "I got wind a month or two ago it could be possible, but I never thought we could pull it off.

"When we got the sniff there was a chance Juan could be available we went after it right away. There will be more players like Juan [joining United] in the future. I've no doubts about that."

Some trivia from footy rumour mill. On #7 shirt, if poisoned chalice? :p

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/juan-mata-unveiling-meet-manchester-uniteds-new-no-8will-he-have-more-success-in-the-shirt-than-anderson-9088305.html

Juan Mata unveiling: Meet Manchester United's new No 8...will he have more success in the shirt than Anderson? Speculation was rife that he had chosen to wear No 7 before his unveiling

Juan Mata has surprised everyone by revealing he will sport the less memorable No 8 shirt at Manchester United, not the iconic No 7.

The Spanish midfielder, who joined from Chelsea for £37.1m, will hope to have more success in it than its previous owner - the Brazilian midfielder Anderson, whose largely forgettable spell at United appears to have ended after he joined Fiorentina on loan for the rest of the season.

The previous incumbent before Anderson was Wayne Rooney, who then decided he would rather sport No 10, and then midfielders Nicky Butt and Paul Ince before him.

But is the No 7 shirt at Old Trafford now a poisoned chalice? The last owner, Antonio Valencia ditched the shirt because of the pressure it held, and the England international Michael Owen failed to set the world alight in it.

So the search now continues for the next wearer of that red No 7 shirt, following in the footsteps of George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

har...so it seems the number 7 is reserved for the special one....who else can it be?

if i may suggest : sign back Ryan Shawcross...he is doing a good job with Stoke.

After Securing Juan Mata, Where Should Manchester United Look Now?
By Jamie Spencer on 26 January 2014

Manchester United may have secured the signing of Juan Mata from Chelsea for a club record fee, but the arrival of the just one player will not solve all of the club's problems. David Moyes' squad still seems light in certain key areas, particularly central midfield and defence, while injuries to key players have also not helped. If Moyes chooses to go back into the market this January, as he has said he will try to, which players would be best suited for United as things stand?

Central midfield has long been the biggest issue for Moyes' team this season. United have already signed Mata, which will add much needed creativity to central areas, but there is still a call for an additional player who could play in a deeper role. For that, Moyes' best option is surely Yohan Cabaye. The Frenchman's form has been a major factor behind Newcastle's improved fortunes this season and, being accustomed to the Premier League already, would be an instant fit. His excellent set-pieces would also add an additional weapon. Newcastle have tried to warn off suitors with a £35m price tag, but for a player who cost the Magpies just £5m in 2011, a deal could probably be engineered for less.

Beyond that, United cannot afford to overload on new players in such a key area, with the risk of needing extra time to gel them together, potentially costing them fourth place in the league table. Therefore, arguably as much as additions, Moyes also needs his existing midfield players to return to full fitness and form. Michael Carrick has been in and out of the team with injury, while the highly criticised Marouane Fellaini has yet to show any of the form which made him such a valuable asset for Everton. If the Belgian can get fit and reproduce the form that saw him regularly bully opponents and score 11 league goals from midfield last season, he would unquestionably be a formidable weapon.

There has been no secret that among Moyes' greatest wishes this season is a new left back. United have been linked with several choices since the Scot took over, with Luke Shaw, Fabio Coentrao and Leighton Baines all allegedly in the frame at one time or another. However, given that Patrice Evra is well backed up by Alexander Buttner, United's immediate full back requirements seem more urgent on the other side of the field. Moyes may well choose to move Evra on in the summer, meaning then, rather than now, would be the right time for a new left back.

Piszczek Would be a Dynamic AdditionPiszczek Would Be A Dynamic Addition
At present, Rafael is the club's only recognised right sided full back, with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones 'filling in' when necessary. As good a player as Rafael can be, he still displays rash tendencies, as demonstrated by his reckless two-footed tackle at Stamford Bridge and is often inconsistent. Borussia Dortmund's marauding right back Lukasz Piszczek could be a good option to add extra strength to the position. The Pole has won many admirers over the last few seasons and his desire to get forward would bring additional attacking options to the team. The similarities between the Premier League and the Bundesliga would also help Piszczek settle quicker than a player arriving from Spain or Italy might.

Central defence also remains a concern. With Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic both ageing and struggling for regular fitness, United have often looked frail this season. Moyes has found it difficult to nail down a favourite centre-back pairing with Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans all guilty of inconsistency. United need a strong character who can fit in seamlessly and play every week until May.

Sir Alex Ferguson often had a lot of success signing players already plying their trade in the Premier League and Moyes would do well to follow a similar method. Argentina international Ezequiel Garay has been mentioned, but the Benfica player might take too much time to settle in mid-season. A better option might therefore be Jan Vertonghen of Tottenham. The Belgian was named in the PFA Team of the Year last season, though he has been out of action since December. However, should he regain fitness shortly, Vertonghen would be an outstanding addition to United's back-line, though he would undoubtedly not come cheap.

If United could engineer deals for Yohan Cabaye, Lukasz Piszczek and Jan Vertonghen to go along with the existing capture of Juan Mata, they would suddenly once more have a squad with the quality and strength still able to challenge for honours this season. The important thing to remember when looking at mid-season transfers is that players arriving from abroad where the lifestyle and football is vastly different to England may need too much time to adapt to be immediately effective. These three players not only offer the right quality, but would fit in quickly and efficiently and are certainly individuals that Manchester United and David Moyes should be looking at to strengthen in the remainder of the transfer window.

After some priviledged insider in the know on Mata's transfer, looks like Roon's staying?

Rooney agrees new long-term contract with Manchester United

Wayne Rooney has agreed a new long-term contract with Manchester United, talkSPORT understands.

The striker's future has been the subject of intense speculation in recent months, with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho making no secret of his desire to lure the England star to Stamford Bridge.

However, Rooney has now accepted a lucrative offer from United to extend his contract beyond 2015.

The new deal will take the 28-year-old well into a second decade at Old Trafford and will ensure he remains the best-paid player in the Premier League.
United could announce the news as soon as Tuesday night, ahead of their clash with Cardiff.

Rooney's decision to commit his future to the club comes after the record signing of Juan Mata from Chelsea.

The two deals are a huge boost for David Moyes, who has endured a nightmare start to his United reign.

Both Rooney and Mata are expected to start against Cardiff, as United, currently sitting seventh in the Premier League, attempt to move closer to the Champions League places.

aiyoh.............pay Looney so much no use lah, not worth lah.......sell him and buy new striker at lower pay makes more sense............

as usual, all clubs managed by ex-Man U players will lose on purpose to Man U............Moyes still clueless lah, use Giggs in central midfield..............:D

might as well use Mata and Kagawa behind striker......4-3-2-1.......not Giggs...........

they bought arsenal's best player -RVP, they bought Chelsea's best player (well before mourinho) - Mata....now for Liverpool's Suarez.

Suarez is going nowhere. Current gossip on the grapevine is that Man Utd are gunning for Toni Kross of Bayern Munich. Jesus, if they get him, that'll be another coup for Moyes.

Moyes has more chance of signing Jesus than Kroos..............

Pep Guardiola opens door for Man Utd's Toni Kroos move: 'Things move quickly in football'

http://www.express.co.uk/sport/foot...ni-Kroos-move-Things-move-quickly-in-football

PEP GUARDIOLA has opened the door for Toni Kroos to make a sensational move from Bayern Munich to Manchester United.

David Moyes travelled to Germany last Friday and sat with a representative of Kroos' agent as Bayern beat Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0.

And that has seen the rumour mill go into overdrive, with reports suggesting United could be about to launch a £25m offer for the 24-year-old.

Guardiola was asked about speculation linking Kroos with the Red Devils after the club's match again Stuttgart and did nothing to downplay talk of a potential move.

He said: "He is an important player but things can move fast in football.

"Here today, gone tomorrow."

The short answer to this is why would Newcastle, Spurs or any other team for that matter help United to the 4th Champions League spot?If there are already sufficient cover for certain positions, look elsewhere. They could do with a central defender and another midfielder. Go for a midfielder as there are only 15 games left. Switch to an all out attacking mode and try to secure the last remaining CL spot.

Luke Shaw wants a Chelsea move and Moyes will get Baines in the summer for sure. As for Mangala, he'll only consider a move at the end of the Portuguese league season and Zouma is destined for Le Blue. Moyes should prioritise and work through the remaining months for the targeted players cuz when the W-Cup comes around the transfer window will likely be 'shortened' and let's not forget there'll be an extended holiday period for those involved in the W-Cup. Unlikely they will agree to any deals.

If Man Utd is humble enough it can always ask Chelsea for some loans. Lots of talented youngsters in the academy to solve all your defensive and midfield needs. ;)

wtf...Moyes never learn his lessons...one good game by Young, n he sticks to him like bee to honey. Lineup shows his complacency...there is no Center backs?

passing like fuck...school boys pass better than the whole lot & Cleverly surprisingly beat his own record by surpassing his lowest performance game after game.

Finally ex-Man U player gets to beat his old team...Mark Hughes...well done.

Moyes, will he now repent for not buying a defender in the last window?
