Manchester United 2013/2014

Made good money on Spur's win this morning. I have to thank Moyes for that. I could not believe me eyes when he took Smalling off. Of the 4 defenders, I thought he played very well again. Keep it up Moyes!:D

I think you should thank Howard Webb more.

with the exception of the Welbeck penalty claim, I thot Howard did a decent job. The problem lies with the manager's selection. Lennon was always going to be a thorn with his pace and you have a 'mismatch' with Evra on the left. So you'll need someone with the legs to cover for Evra and I thot that player should have been Young. Adnan had an off day and he doesn't have the speed to help out Evra.

All of Spurs goals came from the right and you really have to give credit to Sherwood for doing his homework. Moyes's plan was to attack Spurs on the right and concentrate their efforts in that area. It would relieved Evra of the need to support Adnan on the left. Evra's performance to put it mildly was simply atrocious. With no one covering and supporting him from midfield, it was an easy target.

Despite United's possession and dominance, they had little to show for. Rooney looked unhappy playing in midfield yet again and Valencia was his usual self-headless. The biggest mistake was taking Smalling off. Moyes has made a lot of correct moves and substitutions in the past few games since their last defeat but he had to choose New Year's day to fark it up all over again.

Geez, why am I complaining when I've got money to collect. Well done Moyes!!! Let's do it again with juicier odds.

Don't you mean Ashley Young? I was a neutral in this match but even I could see Man Utd deserved a penalty when he was brought down by Lloris without even touching the ball. All the other errors that Webb made could be put down to him 'having a bad day' but this one was really unacceptable for a referee of his calibre. Even Tim Sherwood thought it was a penalty.

Don't get me wrong, Man Utd didn't play particularly badly but Spurs fully deserved their win.

Howard Webb should have given the yellow card to Lloris for not stomping on Young's balls. Nothing he does now will convince referees to award a penalty. On the other hand Welbeck is not known for diving. Howard Webb, United's 12th player chose to play on and he had a clear view of the incident. Well, that's football. Aahhhhh...............the smell of money, so sweeeeeetttt......!!!!!:D

Solskjaer enjoys winning debut

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer began his reign as Cardiff manager with a 2-1 FA Cup victory at Newcastle as his substitutes did the trick.

The Magpies were leading through Papiss Cisse's 61st-minute strike when the Norwegian sent on Craig Noone and Fraizer Campbell, and the pair combined to turn the tie around...................................

Another home game, another defeat. This is the first time I've witnessed a weak opponent going for the winner in the closing stages of the game. I should have bet the whole lot on a Swansea win.

What went wrong? Selection, players, strategy? Methinks it's a confluence of factors that has brought the club to the pathetic state it is in. One of the main reasons is the club's failure to buy quality players in the summer to freshen the squad.

Moyes would be better off playing two players on crutches in the heart of the defence than those two clowns-Rio and Evans. Rio is better off retired and Evans has to be the worst British born defender I've seen in a long time. It is painfully obvious they cannot purge all the underperforming players during this time. Having said that there was no lack of enthusiasm from most of the players that played last night. Player issue? Surely not. They created some decent chances but fail to put them away. It's down to selection.

Why play Fabio when he simply cannot cut it in the premier league? Why did Moyes not bring Carrick on to play in the centre of defence? He has played in that role b4 and performed very well when we last had an injury crisis two seasons ago. Smalling was playing well on the right side defence. Why fix it when it's not broken? What was the instruction given to Adnan? To stay up and not help in defence?

In all fairness to Adnan, he's just 19. His past few outings has been nothing short of horrendous. He is simply taking on too much and too soon. His confidence will plummet if Moyes chooses to play him the way he does. Pick the games for him.

Where do we go from here? Here's a dummy guide to crisis management:-

1. Get Mangala. Play him with Vidic, Smalling or tofu Jones in the heart of the defence.

2.Get a creative midfield man. Forget Herrera, he's rubbish.

3.The call for a technical director gets louder each day. Moyes simply cannot handle the multi tasking. He has brought a whole bunch of idiots from Merseyside to OT. Take control.

It's best that the club do something about it now then wait for the summer spell to come. The good ones will request to leave if the club chooses to sit on their palms.

Foregone conclusion

Manchester United manager David Moyes told he can spend big to revive Premier League champions' hopes

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...to-revive-Premier-League-champions-hopes.html

David Moyes has the backing of the Glazer family to spend big in order to revive Manchester United in the wake of the FA Cup defeat to Swansea City

On the lookout: David Moyes can splash the cash at Manchester United
David Moyes has been given free rein to dictate Manchester United’s transfer business this month, with the Old Trafford hierarchy handing the manager sole charge of club funds in an attempt to avoid a disastrous failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Despite a dreadful run of form that has left United in seventh position in the Premier League – five points adrift of Champions League qualification – and endure a third-round exit in the FA Cup, United’s owners, the Glazer family, remain fully supportive of Moyes and his decisions.

The Scot, who delivered a furious dressing down to his players following the FA Cup elimination at home against Swansea City on Sunday, admitted in the wake of United’s 2-1 defeat that it was “doubtful” he would add to his squad during the transfer window due to the difficulties of securing the best players in January.

But with Moyes yet to overcome a reputation for indecision and caution in the transfer market, forged during a decade of managing with budgetary restrictions at Everton, there is a desire within Old Trafford for the manager to adjust to a new reality of genuine financial muscle at United and embrace it by asserting the club’s heavyweight status.

Although the Glazers back Moyes’s determination to target only top players with a long-term value to the club, the Americans have made it clear that no restrictions will be placed on his recruitment plans should he identify players he deems capable of improving his squad.

Moyes is keen to avoid the acquisition of players he does not consider to be top-class performers, but with some at United referring to the Scot being handed a ‘hospital pass’ by Sir Alex Ferguson with the squad he inherited, the former Everton manager has also been told that he will be backed should he feel the need to add experience and manpower to a squad ravaged by injuries and a loss of confidence.

Moyes is understood to have handed a list of priority targets to Ed Woodward, the executive vice-chairman, with the likes of Luke Shaw, Marco Reus, Eliaquim Mangala and Ilkay Gündogan all highlighted as players wanted by the manager, who regards the addition of players in their mid-20s as crucial in rectifying an imbalance in a squad loaded with players in their thirties and emerging youngsters.

There is an acceptance, shared by Moyes and Woodward, that most or all of those targets will prove hugely difficult to sign this month, with clubs reluctant to sell and some of the players keen to wait for the summer in order to assess United’s state of health at the end of the season.

With Moyes and Woodward being criticised by supporters following the outcome of the summer window, in which £27.5 million was spent on the under-performing Marouane Fellaini following failed attempts to sign Cesc Fabregas, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, senior figures at United are keen to work quietly this month in an attempt to conclude deals behind the scenes.

But after identifying key weaknesses in the squad when he succeeded Ferguson last summer, Moyes believes his concerns are now being realised with four defeats in six home games during the past month highlighting the problems in the team.

The 50-year-old’s frustration with recent results and performances boiled over, with the manager warning players that many of them were fighting for their future at the club following Sunday’s defeat against Swansea.

At least 10 players are believed to face uncertainty beyond this summer, with Rio Ferdinand, Shinji Kagawa and Javier Hernández the most high-profile. Ryan Giggs, at 40, is also expected to depart the scene at the end of the season and become a full-time member of Moyes’s backroom team. The likes of Anderson, Fabio da Silva, Alexander Buttner, Federico Macheda and Bebe are also likely to be cleared off the wage bill.

Resolving the future of Wayne Rooney is an issue that will not be addressed until the closure of this transfer window, however, with neither the club nor the player making moves to instigate negotiations over a new contract this month.

With his contract due to expire in June 2015, a failure to qualify for the Champions League this season would leave United vulnerable to another summer of uncertainty over the 28-year-old, particularly with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho ready to renew his efforts to sign the player after lodging two failed bids last summer.

It is understood, though, that United are prepared to allow the England forward to run his contract down in order to keep him at Old Trafford should they be involved in a battle to reclaim Champions League status next season, with the view being that retaining the player and risk losing him for nothing would make more financial sense than selling him without securing an adequate replacement.

Rooney is doubtful for the Capital One Cup semi-final first leg against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday due to an ongoing groin problem.

Robin van Persie, who has been restricted to two appearances in two months due to a series of injuries, will not figure on Wearside after only resuming light training following a period of fitness work at PSV Eindhoven in his native Holland

It's not about how much money he's been given, it's about the quality of players he spends on. DM is still eyeballing some players from his former club.

As far as the club allowing Rooney's contract to run out, that's a lot of bull. The club will lose RVP and Roon if they choose not to reinforce the squad with quality signings. As far as they see it, there's been a lack of ambition since SAF stepped down.

The Glazers cannot afford to see the club sliding down the league any further. They know their options are limited. Dun be surprise if you see the odds for SAF returning shortened if the misfortune of the club continues under the able stewardship of the chosen one.

Luke Shaw is an interesting prospect- a long term one. Good spring in his legs which suggest that the lad can sprint. Having another 18 year old will not resolve the problem. Buttner has put in some good work in his last outing. Give him a chance.

Manchester United launch £20m bid for Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio

MANCHESTER UNITED have made a £20m offer for Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio, who has also been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.
By: Ben JeffersonPublished: Wed, January 8, 2014 0Comments Manchester United have made an offer for Claudio Marchisio [GETTY]

Reports in Italy suggest that the Red Devils have approached the Turin giants about the availability of Marchisio and are willing to part with £20m to bring the 27-year-old to Old Trafford.

United are keen to add an extra midfielder in January in a bid to halt their faltering form and the experienced Italian international fits the bill.

Juventus were knocked out of the Champions League in December and reports suggested that Marchisio might be sacrificed to help offset the resulting financial shortfall, estimated at £17m.

Marchisio is reportedly surplus to requirements at Juve with Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal considered the midfield of the future by the Italian club.

However, despite concerns about how a lack of playing time might affect his World Cup chances, Marchisio is on record as saying he wants to stay at Juve where he has spent the entirety of his career after coming through the youth ranks.
