Cabby rapes woman, then demands payment
January 24, 2009
A MALAYSIAN taxi driver raped his woman fare, then had the temerity to ask her to pay up for sending her home.
A 28-year-old salesgirl had boarded the taxi after leaving work at a Bandar Utama shopping plaza in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, at about 9.30pm on Tuesday.
When she realised that the cabby, who looked to be in his 30s, was not heading in the right direction, she tried to open the door to escape, reported Guang Ming Daily.
But she couldn't do so as the driver had locked all the doors with a central locking system.
A struggle ensued, during which the woman managed to cut the driver's neck with a sharp object. But he flashed a long knife at her and took out a pair of handcuffs to restrain her, Sin Chew Daily reported.
By now panicking, the victim started crying and screaming but she failed to attract the attention of other drivers and passers-by.
As she had not been blindfolded, she realised she was being driven around Sungei Buloh and Kepong on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur.
The cabby then stopped in a secluded area and raped her.
Her ordeal didn't end with the assault. The driver then drove around for some time and even stopped to make some purchases while leaving her in handcuffs in his taxi.
Pleaded with driver
She pleaded repeatedly with the driver to send her home as she had no idea where she was by then.
The man finally agreed and they arrived at her house at around 4.30am on Wednesday morning, seven hours after she first boarded the taxi.
It was then that the driver demanded that she pay him for sending her home. The reports did not mention how much money he wanted.
Shocked by his adding insult to injury, she nonetheless lied that she did not have enough money and would need to get it from the house.
Once the handcuffs were off, the victim ran into the house, crying for help from her uncle and aunt.
Her aunt called the police while her uncle rushed out with a wooden stick to stop the driver from getting away.
The aunt said: 'My husband was trying to get the driver out of the taxi. He tried to speed off, so my husband tangled with him.'
In his bid to flee, the cabby rammed his taxi into three parked cars, one of which belonged to the family, and nearly ran over the uncle.
As the uncle rolled a few times before falling into a ditch, sustaining minor injuries, the cabby sped off with a smashed rear window.
The victim was too distraught to provide more details, but her aunt learnt from her that the driver not only had the handcuffs and knife, but also a policeman's reflective vest.
The aunt said: 'He could be using the vest to impersonate a policeman. We have given his licence plate number to the police and hope he will be caught soon.'
Petaling Jaya police confirmed they were investigating and had already identified a suspect.
