Just received my Spore property tax bill this month & noticed it has increased. If things keep going up, I plan to go sooner than later.

Curious about the property tax in JB. Would like to share the amount they are paying over there:confused:

Bro..govt already say SG GOT NOTHING!..no rubber/oil/natural gas etc..so only way for govt to generate revenue is through taxation and fees...your prop tax is but just one example. If you look at your Singapore Powers Utilities bill carefully, you noticed they taxed you on the amount of water you use (Water Conservation Tax). After that they add a GST to it!..doubly taxed?..you see the point now?....this is one of the primary reason for me buying a bunker in JB.

cheers bro.

oh? you got the approval from LTA to drive in to SG with MY plate? very interested to know.

bro..house haven built finish yet, therefore din buy car yet also la....i initially tot the cars need to be ordered months ahead like SG cars, so went to test drive first. din realise 10 days delivery nia.I tot there are some bros in this forum who got the special waiver from LTA?..

in any case i believe once indah walk 1,2 and 3 + 3 condos all built up and roaring, caueway link will have to re-look at the way they operate from that small space. it is logically not sustainable with so many cars parked there every day. i think they will have to eventually build an interchange or something similar at one of the empty plots with a muti-storey carpark for m'sians to park their cars and take the bus into SG. lets hope they realise its the only right way to do.

cheers.

no worry. studied MM2H before I paid my downpayment for my hse 5 yrs ago. practically drove in every month to check the progress of construction, the surrounding areas, the roads to shops, etc, did that day time as well as night time. Then live there for the last 2 years. never a question raised by MY immigration. I must say most of the time I use 2d link. Officers there seem more professional, never encounter any demand or hint of coffee money. never enroll mm2h in the end as it is not attractive.

Done and dusted! Deal closed at lawyer's office today! Very happy with the outcome.

Looking forward to key collection and the big move now.

BTW, I always assumed that I would move on the MM2H programme, but upon closer examination, it does not appear to be of substantial benefit to me at this point. I don't want to fall foul of Malaysian law though, so I'm wondering whether anyone has any idea what Malaysia's Immigration Department's 'real' stance on Singaporeans living in Johor on asocial visit pass is. There seem to be a lot of people doing it here, have you all encountered any issues doing so?

Thanks.

Haha is it that bad? Have been to the one near Fuji i thought it looked pretty ok except they belong to the lower end luxury goods or higher end high street products

Only bad bit is I see the enthusiasm and delight of the visitors to the JPO and the "OOHs and AAhs" and the remarks it so much cheaper than Singapore and what a good buy ........ MAYBE not realising that what is offered is NOT exactly what is on offer in Singapore at the moment...... After all we are all informed adults and from the postings here "been around the block a couple of times" and know what we are getting. It's those who don't realise that and I find the lack of information highlighting the difference from the items offered in the boutiques that disturbs me. Those offered at JPO aren't exactly cheap......... Probably it's seeing and reading about the taking advanatges of the less informed that's got to me....... :o. I just do not like to see people not getting all the facts and being taking advantage off. That's my rant, going to the JPO to do some Christmas shopping...... I know, I won't be getting the BOUTIQUE stuff..... BUT it's so much CHEAPER......... :biggrin:

I have also lived in Europe, America, north Asia for a while... the paradise to me is actually nusajaya.. other places that i like are Taiwan and sabah..
Singapore is not bad...but expensive and soulless..

Yes Sabah is nice, thought of HKG or China But "Pu Chiang Wah Yi" or tiny bit of it. English is not that widely spoken and I do love to "walk around" to find out more about a place. Been on holidays there and found communicating quite diificult if wife not with me. The world is big enough to experience other places.....

I am going in with my colleague this weekend to view more HH unit.
engaging agents to bring us..

Courage friend, not that you lack it. Any place unfamiliar tends to make a person be more cautious. You will find, J.B./Nusajaya no different from Katong or for that matter Geylang ( no not the DARK side.......) The cultural background are quite close, so you won't "stick out like a sore thumb". GOOD LUCK....

Some PAP MPs are getting more than one pay packet e.g. retirement pay, active pay, bonuses,....all that money & they pay zero taxes. For years I've seen the PAP drive up the costs in Spore & waiting for Sporeans to push back against the PAP. They are finally reacting, but I'm getting too old & want to enjoy life before it's too late.

Would have acted sooner except for the financial crises that must have affected many plans:(

Hehe my friend is not Thai, but she is very well travelled and quite critical of some places. So I guess Chiangmai must have its charm for her to rank so highly. Actually I went Chiangmai many years ago as part of package tour, but can't recall anything special about the place. I prefer Bangkok for the buzz.

My thai friends has suggested that I buy property in Bangkok, but as an investment i.e to rent out
For self stay you don't have have to limit it to only one place:smile: Can have a place in Chiangmai AND Bangkok

During the hot season can spend time in cool Chiangmai to recharge your batteries & then go to Bangkok when the weather is nicer.

It's of course nice to have your own property but it ties you & your money down. I'm not sure I can adjust to life in LOS, especially the language. That's why my plan is to get an education visa to attend language classes. After which I can decide on my next step.

Sorry...what fine is this? Is it pertaining to engaging a local driver to drive the MY car into Sg or a singaporean driving the MY into Sg?

Hi guys,

not sure if this info is outdated. In the 90s, when i was still in the SPF , my incharge have to go to court as during a routine roadblock, he had caught a singaporean driving a malaysia car. that driver was charged with a heavy fine. You can also refer to http://www.lta.gov.sg/motoring_matters/motoring_guide_overview.htm. Just my two cents worth.. "Bor Hua"

By the way, each family of each of my relatives has several cars (even though they are just normal people, certainly not the rich ones) and obviously has a decent life there and they always look so happy..

I've travelled to many places globally & only in Spore have I seen so many relatively rich but unhappy people  You can see the white hair, the harassed looks, jumpy, impatient,...:(
Compared to friends who are now Australians. They have aged gracefully. They might not be wealthy but it's about quality of life & being happy.

The rules is still the same, no changes.

The LTA website sated: Singapore citizens, permanent residents (regardless of their place of residence), student pass holders, long term social visit pass holder and residents of Singapore are NOT allowed to use or keep any foreign-registered vehicles in Singapore.

Expensive and soulless is what our country is becoming... Increasingly I see it as a place only for the wealthy.

i don't think we'll see much progress from the old ways until the old guards are rid off. even then the policies have been effected and are very difficult to retract. take for example the old man who set up punitive measures for families producing > 1 babies. Wonder why not enough citizens today...? That's 20 years for the effect to be felt.

there is a recent implementation that allow limited driving of MY car into SG although with lots of T&C and need to sought approval from LTA. This is the one where I wonder how many have been let pass the 'golden bridge'.
