Sighs, you refused to acknowledge the important and prevalence of stats in our real world. so be it, live in your world of common sense and self indulgence bah. If me or similar professions use only common sense or own perceived views, i'll be out of work. You've to have fair mix of common sense, moral values and scientific knowledge in this world.

Having arsenal of quotes doesn't mean they're the truths of the world, online got a lot of quotes for any arguments, but when you use them only for your own agenda and refuse to see the other side, you just belong to the % of the population who are like that. As bogus as stats sounds to you, ironically you're already part of it now.

I may not be always right, but i can't disregard scientific tools vs word of mouth. Stats don't lie, humans do.

What is own perceived views?

I am learning from you o noble soul who is enlightened with a fair mix of common sense, moral values and scientific knowledge!

So what have you done o great soul that is even slightly superior to any of the soothsayers, gossip mongers that i have quoted?

So what if quotes are found online? Am i not supposed to use them? U mean you are a walking encylopedia that dishes out facts n figures from your grey cells..

BTW friend i did not swear on sacred scripture that quotes are gospel truths...

Only statistical morons with horse eyed vision would believe thus cause they are blinded and see no reason yet claim to walk the moral, scientific and common sense route.

unfortunately this ipad has been limiting my ability to give you a decent response. stat again!

So which scientific tools or stats of yours can prove any of the gossip mongers that i quoted wrong?

Unfortunately you belong to the Spore system and this is what our system produces..... Stat reading pap folks who lost touch with the man on the street..... Cheers to science, morality n common sense..

Based on stats, common sense, science n morality i beg of you to solve the US crisis! Please give Obama a call. If he listens to you then you would be a stat of people obama listened to. So what use is that stat!

You o enlightened soul..... Please use stAts to help needy singaporeans......

so what if i am a part of stat bro? Are u saying heaven has fallen since ironically i am a part of stat?

Since birth i hv a no. Dun u? Whats the big fuss ?

Bro,
Ironic as it seems, both you & AP are right about stats..
However it depends on the user biased on the end result..

The other common issue is whether the stats collected from the sample is representative..
Seen alot of reports based on stats sponsored by various companies..
eg: Smoking is good for health.. Frequent drinking co-relates to longer life span

Was doing reliability engineering in the past, many a times problem revolves about getting data with same control parameters else results do not co-relate..

even simple stats like ave fuel consumption of my car varies with common factors such as highway/city driving, duration of travel, engine oil, tyre rating etc, timing of refueling..

So its good to understand the fundamentals of science yet moderate with some common sense.. Not all stat reports are true..
Remember former HDB minister who claims HDB flats are affordable for even family earning 2K per mth..

Cheers

did i say i dis regard science? Scientific knowledge? Morality?

Come on man...... Dun juz make fleeting statements and gallop away like a horse....

Read what i posted....! Differentiate between what i said and my quotes.....

So much .....for your stats?

Do you know stats also says taking panadol can lead to blood cancers.... So are you going to stop taking paraceotomol and get yourself cooked with high fever and its deleterios side effects?

but i can't disregard scientific tools vs word of mouth. Stats don't lie, humans do.

I've read your posts, and they're all anti-stats aint' they? Correct me if i'm wrong. I've already said much earlier that stats are not all assuming, there're indeed people who misuse stats, misinterpret. But what i'm saying is it's a more reliable source than "coffeeshop" talk? Without stats, many professions cannot, i repeat cannot, draw conclusions AT ALL!

Even bro Avalon mentioned about reliability engineering, on the part of fuel consumption, there u go, the different parameters affects it. That is why people still do study consumption with different parameters, engineers DO consider the different parameters in their prototypes to decide if the performance is acceptable for the market release.

You agn did not understand my viewpoint that stats are important in this world (which you conveniently brushed off) and to add to the insult, bombarded with sentences to twist my words to insinuate that stats can solve anything in this world, which i did not suggest. I find it hard to discuss with someone who's already biased for discussion in the first place, so be it. Believe in what you believe. Peace.

is it my imagination or less hdb dwellers handing the national flag today?

More and more non citizens staying in our HDBs...

Maybe we should celebrate United Nation Day instead of National Day? /Just a cold joke..

It is not your imagination but a reality. Not just HDB shoeboxes. Just look around and see how many drivers stick the flag on their cars? Just wait for end Aug, you will see Malaysia lit up with many many flags when they celebrate their National Day.

Is this in a pot? If so much easier. If in the ground, can be done just a lot more work. They can be transplanted and roots are quite hardy. If in the pot, just take the entire plant and soil out of the pot. Spread out a large newspaper to catch your soil droppings.

You will need to have patience to slowly loosen the soil around the baby plants to dislodge it from the mother plant. Just use care and not break too many roots. Put back mother plant into old pot and top up with soil/compost and water. Pot the baby into another prepared pot. Keep the soil moist but not overly wet. Young roots susceptible to root rot if too wet. Also, keep pots in semi shade for at least two weeks. Don't want the baby plants to die from heat exhaustion would you?

Happy transplanting.

ps: I usually prepare the new potted soil a couple of days before the transplant. Mix good heaps of compost and soil in a new pot(s). Water the pot down and keep it moist for a few days then do the transplants. Some how I feed the ready soil will be less stress to the transplants.
