I tried to ask the tax office staff more but she can’t seem to explain in English speaking something in Malay. So I asked my lawyer to follow up.

The good news is I just asked my lawyer and she said her clerk managed to call the kl tax office and true enough it’s pending approval. Last time my first house sale I remember there was no need for approval and my lawyer can make refund arrangements after calling them but now got this new step of approval which the tax office staff can’t even advise when is the approval expected.
Hey the notice of assessment letter was dated September and I already received it five weeks ago. The notice is assessment clearly stated my withholding tax balance and the tax assessed. What kind of approval is needed? And approval taking months and five weeks with no end in sight is ridiculous .
I asked her why the tax office cannot advise when is approval expected when there should be SOP for such so called approval process and she just said will take some time. But it’s already taken not some time but unreasonable long time!
Another two weeks have passed and my RPGT withholding tax refund is still no sound no music waiting for tax office approval. It’s already three months from the date of notice of assessment in September and more than 1.5 months from the date I received the letter.
I asked my Malaysian lawyer any update last Thursday and until Tuesday also no reply. What an atrocious service standard, I asked her again on Tuesday why no reply and she gave me this insincere response of no worries she has asked her clerk to follow up. But until today Thursday also no update and I sent her reminder today again no response.
