Well, the bottom line is no one should dwell on misfortunes. For this case, Canada can go ahead give honors and accolades to the rescuer. No one can stop Canada. It does not mean that the Sinkie sailor is trying to cover up. What does the Canadian want this Siew guy to do? Give him a blowjob?
The Canadian never ask him for anything, and as far as I know, did not want the attention. But people keep bringing it up to him, even 20 years later, reporters are still interviewing him for his sportsmanship in rescuing the 2 sinkies. He never ask for money or even acknowledgement. As a native born singaporean, I appreciate and am grateful that this FT saved the life of 2 sinkies (who by the way are an endangered species according to the PAP on account of the negative birth rate). If not for him, there will be a plague now at the Sailing Federation commemorating THE DEATH OF CHAN AND SIEW. I am in no position to thank him, as I do not know him and I do not represent the sailing federation or the country of singapore. But SSC and SIew ARE IN SUCH A POSITION, and they should at the very least publicly acknowldege and thank this chap Lemieux. Anyone in the world reading his story and more importantly Lemieux himself now all think that SIngapore and singaporeans are an ungrateful nation of assholes who can't even say thank you to a person who saved their lives. I for one do not want the world to think of singaporeans as such.
This is simple common courtesy and decency, 2 items I can see are lacking in an asshole like yourself.
