what is this crap about abuse of power? when a beloved and admired person dies, it's natural and spontaneous for many to commemorate the person's passing with books, biographies, stories, articles, news, journals, documentaries, films and tv shows, memorials, etc., every year and every anniversary. just look at the list of yearly memories dedicated to steve jobs. there's practically new material about him created each year for the masses to commemorate and consume. this is no different from sinkies' mass commemoration of lky.

if 69.86% believe in the party he led for more than 50 years, it could be a tyrannical monarchy or despotic dictatorship or socialistic republic or anything yet a super majority of the believers think he deserved a founding father treatment, just like george washington's birthday is being celebrated yearly. steve jobs was never popular as he behaved like an arsehole....worse than a dictator.

If it is 'ground up' effort, then why the need for govt to legislate law to protect lky name and image? Surely society at large will ostracize and check on any attemp to abuse the image of lky.

I can't be sure if Lhl was trying to establish a political dynasty but for sure he and his cabinet are trying to gain as much political mileage out of lky.

So what next, declaring Lky as the 'Father of Singapore'? If it goes on unrestrained, it could only go down the slippery path of personality cult like what we witness in North Korea and Thailand.

To prevent this from happening, I support Lwl. We should just leave lky alone.

I totally disagree with you.

For Ho Ching the PM's wife to retaliate to LWL, her sister-in-law with a picture of a monkey with an "up-you" or "fuck you" finger is extremely crude and unbecoming of her.

Since the passing of her father, LWL has been consistent that it was her father's wish that there should be no hagiography.
