After a week of sleeping at a nearby playground and at void decks, the then-14-year-old was approached by an odd-job worker who offered him shelter. But the man was no good Samaritan. As soon as Amayapan Kodanpany got the teenager into his flat, he plied him with beer and sedatives, then sodomised him and made him perform oral sex on him. A psychological report said the teen, with an IQ of 52, had difficulties in social judgment and ability to guard against bad influences. On Thursday, Amayapan, now 59, was jailed three years on three charges of ill-treating the boy on March 14, 2007 by subjecting him to sexual abuse, an offence under the Children and Young Persons Act. The bachelor, who pleaded guilty, had at first faced more serious charges of unnatural sex under the Penal Code.His case was set for a nine-day trial, which began on Monday. But after two days of hearing, the prosecution reduced the charges following representations by his lawyer.
