While PHV drivers have flexibility, they are not their own bosses. Ride-hailing companies set rules, commissions and perhaps even dictate working hours. Drivers are also subject to passenger ratings and platform policies, limiting their autonomy. My retrenched former colleague told me that he enjoys being his own boss and not having to take orders from anyone while driving a PHV. During a recent trip, I felt bad when I interrupted him by saying: "Turn right at the next traffic junction, keep your eyes on the road and don't talk so much when driving." LOL!
