That is what Chee and his activists are trying to do, to make the political field more level for all political parties.
Different political parties have different objectives and priorities. What is feasible to SDP may not be practical to WP and vice versa.
He also dared and joined the YPAP and WP. What has he or the president got to do with voters being a afraid.
The law society president was answering to the quesation of legal reprsentation. He clarified that SDP and Chia were seeking free legal representation which they conveniently left out and gave the impression that no lawyer would act for them even when paid. This charade was also done in this forum.
Nobody likes to be used for other people's agenda. There is no love lost between the law society and the Govt.

The law society was constrained by law courtesy of LKY. SL as a lawyer herself made an argument in parliament for greater freedom for the law society for which I believe little credit was given.
As to CTL and weasly lawyers. You might want to add apart from jumping political boats he has a prediliction for jumping " Political Causes" boats. IE from defending G Nair to defending the TBT 18 because of an inability to do all the work. But then again defending the TBT gets one a trip to UK whilst defending G N does not garner as high a profile.

He quit YPAP because PAP wouldn't give him a second look with regard to being a candidate. He quit WP told him to shut up in Sammyboy. The reCHEEme cannot afford to reject anybody.
Whether Chia Li Tik joined YPAP first, then WP and now Chee in TBT campaign is his personal choice. We have to find our own calling in life. What is admirable is his courage to fight a cause he believes in and to step out into the arena to take actions.
When IBAHRI invited the Law Society to comment on its draft report on Singapore legal system and reform, it was not responding the way it should. The reason is obvious - fear of offending the Govt.
When Chee publicly invited the Law Society to comment on civil and political rights, it stated that it has no comment. It is simply afraid to take a position.
If fear of govt is so pervasive in the Law Society and in the legal fraternity, it is not difficult for us to see that the average folks have that same fear.
During GE, some may fear losing facilities, HDB upgrading, withdrawal of bus services, childcare amenities etc, if they voted for the opposition.

Yes. I think Scroobal himself previously pointed this out and rightly suggested that lawyers interested in raising such matters could perhaps set up their own 'club/society' to circumvent this rule. But if even Ravi and Chia Ti Lik's legal HR offshoot appears to have fizzled out as quickly as it started with great fanfare than where are these lawyers going to come from?
Not forgetting the more recent Operation Spectrum, the 'fixing' of Francis Seow and the political 'epiphany' of Devan Nair after his fall from grace.
