However, in the real world, nearly everyone is a dick. Some people are dicks but they repress it very well and only people behind closed doors know it. Most people outside think they are nice people. Few people, I'm one of them, are not dicks at all.

No one is able to fulfill the ten commandments. None of the old prophets could. They all had flaws. We all have flaws. So while all the important teachings are contained within the ten commandments, the flaw is that people cannot live up to God's standard of holiness.

God said "Thou shalt not kill". God did not say "It's okay to kill if you have a good reason". It's the same reasoning you used to explain why raiding caravans is okay.
