It's once in 50 years! Again!

Yes, and an interesting event to watch how long it will take before they admit that the reservoir/barrage is indeed the issue. I know that they have realised it internally.

I can see that they praying to find another blockage to blame it on.

rainfall statistics over time are collected and collated, not calculated. it is difficult to predict changes to weather and rainfall patterns with major changes happening to the planet and climate. however, it is not difficult to predict how the shit will flow when the entire drainage system is ultimately blocked or dammed at its largest egress to the sea.

Statistics on how many mm of rainfall is meaningless when you do not take into consideration of whether it is partial or island wide rainfall. You will have to make calculations on the "worst case scenario" eg. if it is island wide rainfall of 100mm-150mm rainfall per hour, what is the amount of water that is needed to be drained out. Most importantly, whether the Barrage could well cope with such huge amount of water derives by such rainfall.

They could continue to claim all 6 or 7 pumps/floodgates have been opened but the most important question is whether these floodgates could cope with such worst case scenarios or not.

Breaking News: Stomper Mrs Robinson spotted another Singapore Navy's latest French made Missile Frigate patrolling flooding areas in full battle station against any freak looting by peasants.

I am actually thankful to our Prime Minister.

He has already foreshadowed with his exceptional foresights that it is unrealistic to expect no flooding in tropical Singapore.

I have heeded our PM's advise seriously, shutting all my house windows before bedtime every night.

Thank you again. :)

This the price to pay for extraordinary growth in urbanisation, the whole become very concrete ground, rain water is not seeping fast enough to the ground and the water table below is ever rising with each new construction project. Beware great floodings are the baptism of fire for Singapore.

MediaCock and Shifty Times busy posting other country flood in China/Japan.....
Try to cover up local FLOOD.
What they trying to hide???

I am absolutely pleased with PAPa's foresight, looking at the photos.

I am convinced Woody really meant Venice-standard of living rather than Swiss.

I am sure some entreprenuers will be starting a new entertainment industry by rowing out their sampans (opps, should be gondolas ?) for tourists' enjoyment soon. More good years.

It's amazing what the lack of good gov't can achieve. Whenever we have an election some PAP supporters will claim we cannot risk Spore's future by voting in untested opposition.

Look at what the PAP has single handedly achieved. Billions lost by Temasek, Uncontrolled immigration of foreigners, casino gambling in Spore, floods on a regular basis, wasting of money on circus events like YOG,...

What else has the PAP been able to successfully hide from it's the public

I bet there are plenty of other skeletons in the closet but it's harder to hide when the skeletons are on a larger scale.

People forget that Spore is a tiny island & if there is shit on the streets, you are going to trip on it, even if you are an elite.

"We can't be flood-free"

"it's also not realistic to expect the country to be completely free of floods. To do so would require huge tracts of land to be put aside for huge monsoon drains which will be empty most of the time."

"The land is tied up, the infrastructure will cost a lot of money, and it's not worth it,"

"PUB has an ongoing drainage improvement programme which over the years has made floods much rarer and much less severe, so much so that when it does happen, we're sometimes taken by surprise and we scramble to see how we can deal with those remaining problems."

"We all have parts to play to keep public places and our waterways clean. We must prevent the litter from choking up our drains, otherwise the litter will find its way into the drains, into the canals, into the reservoirs and pollute our water supply,"

I remember when I was young in my Primary school days, we had floods during the monsoon seasons. Then the government worked hard to improve the situation and we seldom had any flood and eventually, no flood at all.

After so many years of progress and flood free, it seems to me that we are regressing to my "good" old days of flooding era. Has our government became too lax without competition from opposition? And we pay millions for such incompetent.

The Marina Barrage was the brainchild of LKY's PAP. Don't think he will admit it was a mistake so easily. Look how long it took him to admit his 2-child policy and his dual language requirement education policy was a mistake.

Stopmer Maggie was so touch when she saw this... the ministers are leading by example. She quickly snapped a photo using her mobile phone and upload to Stomp to prove all detractors wrong.

Re: Heavy Downpour This Morning!

Very poor reporting from CNA.

Heavy showers are reported in many parts of Singapore, flash flood are reported and could occurs in low lying area.

What the fcuk... what is low lying area, along the longkang?

At the beginning of the day, we should expect them to report the exact location of flooding and warn the public to avoid those areas and roads. I am sure net citizen would have send them loads of info as to where it is flooded.

And the scrolling text of this brief info is being scrolled once in 5 minutes. Damm... please do away with all the financial news... in situation like this.
You cannot expect too much from the corporate communications department of SG Inc.
