it is getting more and more worth to eat at McDonalds during lunchtime

when eating out, it is the drink that is expensive. I still food for $3 in coffee shop and $4 in foodcourt is reasonable.

but drinks for $1.20 in coffee shop, and $1.50 in foodcourt is very very expensive. Soft drinks is also not healthy.

Usually, I will go back office drink coffee or drink plain water after lunch.

You got it right. Drinks, especially soft drinks, are the high-margin profit centres in fast food business models, not really the foods.

Forgot to tell you, I eat the fish ball and dump the soup. Eat the yong tau hoo and skip the sauces and soup.

I order from chicken rice stall, I tell uncle, chicken breast $5, no skin, no sauce and seasoning, no rice. Drink soya bean drink without sugar. Not many people can eat this kind of food one.

bro... most fish ball, fish cake... are made of alot of MSG. without MSG, how can it taste so nice ?? If it is just made of fish meat, how can it be so cheap ?

I noticed some the fish ball claimed to be made of "yellow tail fish", I think they have add alot of MSG. "yellow tail fish" is not cheap. it is just not possible to use the meat to make fish ball.

Yong Tau Fu is basically make of alot of fish cake material. They stuff the fish cake into the Tau-Pok, and other things....

The only thing that is healthy is the vege

I think that it's getting more worth to eat at McD too..

Especially when I go back to SG after work, somehow, fast food and Wetern style food is on my craving list. :D

Sliced fish porridge or noodle is good. Look for stalls serving a reasonable portion between S$3 to 3.5.

it is getting more and more worth to eat at McDonalds
at lunch, since it is only S$4.50

Even though Mac raised their breakfast price from $2 to $2.50, it is still worth it IMO. You try buying a burger, one hash brown, one cup of black coffee from a western food stall at a hawker center for $2.50.

Fast food is demonised for being unhealthy. In fact, much hawker food is just as unhealthy with high fat & oil content, and liberal use of MSG. Those hawker food that is deep fried, a lot of nutrition has been lost. Unlike fast food like hamburgers or chicken nuggets that still retain a lot of protein content & natural goodness.

One other thing gd abt fast food is hygiene - you don't share fucking dirty utensils with other patrons.

The oils used by hawkers you think not carcinogenic?
The trans fats used by hawkers you think not a problem?
You think no salt and calories in hawker foods?
You think hawker drinks have no sugar?
You think hawker breads aren't made of processed flour?

McD is good target for nutrition studies and reports because it's a big establishment.
It doesn't mean that hawker foods are more healthy; just too small and varied to be studied.

That's the point precisely.

Fast food is an easy target because it is big business. Hawker food is just as unhealthy, and in some cases like char kway teow, even more unhealthy than fast food.

It is also politically incorrect to target hawker food because many stalls are run by heartlanders. It's much easier to attack fast food even though fast food is more hygienic and has even lower oil content than some hawker foods.

I'm beginning to like you. :) :D

can you imagine, my wet market fried bee hoon used to be 60 cents - 100 cents now $1.50
more than double in 10 years

while macdonald still maintain price - something need investigation

Wet market foods & also hawker & food court foods have been going up because of one word - RENTAL. Rental has been increasing over the years, forcing stall owners to pass on to the customers in the form of increased prices.

The whole inflation thing in Singapore is about rentals which are forever going higher and higher.

Wow! I'm even into more agreement with you now. Rental inflation is the root cause of food price inflation, and government makes money from it and can attribute GDP figures to it to claim good economy and up their own pays.

4 numbers or 7 numbers I don't care and can't give. I'm not an actuary or deity. I got only a few dollars left. RWS or MBS got McDonald's or not? :D
