It's only after spending some time with them that one will realise that many of them are entrapped in circumstances beyond their control of which they can do little to change. One huge obstacle is the many many conditions that govt imposes before they can even get any form of aid. Even if we want these people to become independent, they must first be helped and only after some time of such assistance can they find their way. But the govt has look the other way all these time with the convenient excuse that once u start helping them, S'pore will turn into a welfare state. Thanks again for your posting that I hope many forummers will read and understand.

The foreigners have gone home and rubbish is piling up. Here's a chance for those so called "disadvantaged" to earn some money cleaning up the mess left behind by their fellow countrymen. The opportunity is there. Spread the word over the next few days and let me know how many of your "disadvantaged" friends actually do some real work.

for those who insist that official and pap data/statistics are gospel truths, we let them wallow in their ignorance.

That's really interesting. Is your data collection sufficiently randomised to be accurate? What is your sample size?

to my satisfaction..i dont need to use them to convince others...people can gauge whether i say makes sense.

there are qualitative and quantitative arguments.

if the qualitative points make sense, no need to confuse with facts and figures.

it's when u cant debate convincingly with ur qualitative arguments, that u had to resort to dubious quantitative figures...and LeongSam is so fond of that

The problem with qualitative arguments is that they're emotive by nature.

To be honest, after reading so much in this forum about how bad the PAP was, I too was turning against the PAP.

Luckily, I decided that before I made up my mind, I should do some quantitative research from sources which are reasonably independent. I also checked multiple sources... not just one.

To my horror, I found that the content of this forum was very, very misleading and did not reflect the real situation. All the indices that matter such as life expectancy, infant mortality rates, education levels etc show that the PAP is doing a very good job.

Never trust such statistics. Always do your own research and use sources that are independent. Take life expectancy for example.. use data published by WHO not the Ministry of Health.

Yes that really is silly. I would wait for an independent source to find out what is actually going on. If I can't find one, I'd take what I read with a pinch of salt.
