A PET groomer - who had his hands full with a Maltese terrier taking nips at him while being shaved last month - hit the dog so hard with a pair of clippers that it died on the grooming table. A post-mortem by the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) revealed that the three-year-old, 3.5kg pet named Junior had been hit on its head.

Sun Hu, a 24-year-old Chinese national, was on Friday jailed for two weeks for what he did. A district court heard that Junior's owner, Mr Deva Rajan Kamalasanan, 47, took the dog to the Strawberry Pet Shop in Corporation Road in Jurong on Sept 13. The pet shop's owner, Mr Tong Cheng Ooh, 59, suggested that the dog be completely shaved, as its fur was matted on its flank. Mr Deva Rajan, a general manager, agreed and left his pet at the shop. Half an hour later, he received a phone call telling him that Junior had died.

Dad, son fell to death

<!-- by line --> By Elena Chong, Courts Correspondent
<!-- end by line -->
<!-- story content : start --> A 36-YEAR-OLD senior database administrator who fell to his death with his seven-year-old son left various suicide notes to family members and close friends. A coroner's court heard that Mohamed Farook Ali Akbar, an Indian national and permanent resident here, had told his sister in a letter that he did it because of his health problem. His body and that of his son, Faheem Mohamed Farook, were found at the foot of Block 287 Bukit Batok East Avenue 3 on April 24. Among the nine pieces of papers found in Farook's master bedroom in Bukit Batok was a letter to to his wife, Madam Aneez Fathima Mohamed Farook, 32, stating that he experienced chest pain and his concern about his health problem. He told her to be brave and encouraged her to remarry, Farook, whose last drawn salary was $7,300 a month, came to Singapore to seek employment shortly after his marriage in India in February 2001. His wife joined him a month later. After she had given birth in India in 2002, both mother and child came here in late 2002. They became permanent residents in 2003. Faheem, who had a problem of delay development, underwent therapies from the age of five, the court heard. Both Farook and his wife were troubled by Faheem's condition. Teachers found him inattentive during lessons and an attention-seeker. He also disturbed some of his classmates. Two days before the incident, the Primary 1 student of Bukit View Primary School had used a pair of scissors to snip his classmate's uniform while attending a Tamil language lesson. On Wednesday, State Coroner Eddy Tham recorded a verdict of murder on Faheem's death, and suicide in the case of Farook's demise.

Jailed 4 years for card fraud
By Khushwant Singh

<!-- end by line --><!-- end left side bar --><!-- story content : start -->THE syndicate was so well organised that it could forge credit cards with the name of the fraudster but this did not allow Ang Lip Kwing to get away.
The Malaysian, 29, was jailed for four years by a district court on Monday. He pleaded guilty to possessing fake credit cards and conspiring to cheat at Changi Airport in October. Asking for a stiff sentence, Deputy Public Prosecutor David Chew pointed out that the syndicate was 'highly sophisticated considering that the counterfeit cards were made from scratch and embossed with the accused's name'. The court heard that as Ang was unable to repay a loan to an illegal moneylender in Malaysia, the loan shark gave him five fake credit cards and instructed him to buy as many high-valued watches as possible from shops in the transit area of Changi Airport. The commissions he earned would go to offset his debt.[/FONT]
