995 calls go to SCDF, not to the hospitals. SCDF ambulances are instructed to bring casualties to the nearest hospital with a full A&E. In this case, they could have gone to either TTSH or SGH.

I've brought someone in to RH A&E before (small matter - glass shards in feet but it was night time) and did not get the impression they handled serious trauma cases. But, Sam, they can do a lot more than give a panadol but no, they cannot handle what must have been the condition of the casualties of that accident. The casualties were probably better off being treated in the ambulance as it made its way to hospital.

boss, what makes you think Raffles hospital dun have that specialisation, you are the biggest twit!:p:D

what is more logical is that someone dial 995 and the call got routed to sgh and ttsh. cheng hu hospitals are cheaper also...

In China, the situation got to the point where they now can sue the drunk drivers for murder if they kill anyone in an accident. A few drivers kenna executed already. Singapore should have such a law esp when there are so many PRCs now and even the PRCs bus drivers are mowing Sinkies down. WTF!

Please dun get emotionally carried away and scare our FTs away.
The driver Ma Chi alread died in his prime.
What a big waste, imagine how much his wealth could have contribute to ur economy.
The 3 sinkies should be persecuted for causing his death instead so as to pacify the other FTs here or those thinking of coming here.

All you're doing is providing further displays of your ignorance.

This alone should tell you what sort of service they provide. It's for people who have stepped on a nail or cut themselves open with a kitchen knife.

Serious injuries from high speed road accidents require a whole team of specialists :

Neurologists need to determine there is no brain damage or trauma. An operation may well be required if the brain starts to swell.

Orthopedic surgeons are required to wire together shattered bones, stabilise spinal injuries, treat broken pelvises to prevent death from major bleeding which can occur from such breaks.

Spleens and kidneys could be ruptured. Lungs could have collapsed. Nerves could be severed. Bowels could be spilling their contents into other body cavities.

Very often, an MRI from tip to toe is required to access the damage.

Taking an accident victim to a nearby hospital not equipped to handle such cases does nothing but delay potentially life saving intervention.

You do realise that trauma means simple fractures as well.

Real A & E has sophisticated equipment, teams to handle it, emergency specialist on call. These things do not make money. Private hospitals have sophisticated equipment for elective surgery and not emergencies. Its part of social responsibility. No cabinet minister or senior civil servanst will send his family members to a private hospital in singapore because the state of art equipment for complications and emergencies are in public hospitals.

boss infract me again...can someone please take the seat off from his bike? he having some irregularities in his mood again...

Yes,as far as in the context of Singapore government run hospitals are concerned--that they have the state of latest medical equipments money can buy but not necessarily the best medical specialist money can buy.And in certain other countries, particularly 3rd world countries---the private hospitals have better medical equipments because the government hospitals are operated on social service whereas the private hospitals are run exclusively for those who can afford it.

In that respect you and Sam are both right and wrong.

True, trauma specialist(like Dr.Fatimah Lateef MP for Marine Parade GRC) but they alone cannot fix critical conditions as what Sam described and thereby emergency specialist had to be called form the comfort of their homes..for emergency operations;even in government hospitals.

Take the famous Mrs.LKY episode being stuck in London hospital for lack of immediate MRI scan. They have the equipment and the specialist to operate it.It's only that they deem things can wait for a few hours.....and if a trauma specialist in A&E had deemed that Mrs LKY indeed needs a MRI pronto than she would have been dispatched to a hospital that provides that service. It's only that LKY is impatient.

I had gone through trauma procedures a couple of times oversea. In in those countries ,it's the private hospitals that gave me that extra edge because my insurance covers it.

While I sympathise with the deceased taxi passenger and feel sorry for the Malay bike rider & taxi driver, I am glad that the PRC bastard is dead.

Good thing here is we at have one less PRC foreign trash and I hope with his passing, his whole fucking family would change their minds about staying back here!

Fuck off to where you belong you PRC chinks!
