Fandi Ahmad demoted to assistant coach

Footballers are not good with money management.

George Best, Pele, Gazzy....just to name a few

I guess we and more importantly he has to accept that whilst he was a good player he's not a good coach. No shame in it. Even Shearer failed.

Shearer had only less than 10 games to try and save Newcastle from relegation, when they were already in a precarious position.
He didn't manage to save them, but he should be considered as an unproven coach rather a failure.
He never had a proper chance, at least one full season with a reasonable squad of players.

On the local scene Fandi has a so so track record as coach....tasted success as well....though not as successful as his playing career....I wouldn't term him as a failure either.

He who knows, do .... ie kick ball

He who does not know, teach/coach.......................... hahaha how true

.... Except one thing.... He did use Damien Duff as left back?????

I don't remember that, but if he did, he was just trying to get the team to score goals. :p

Newcastle's director of football, Joe Kinnear, has hit back at the club's record goalscorer, Alan Shearer, claiming: "This is a guy who doesn't have a clue about coaching."

Shearer, who scored 206 goals in 404 games for Newcastle, told The Sun last week that the appointment of Kinnear had "undermined" the manager, Alan Pardew, and said recent events at St James' Park had turned the club into a "laughing stock".

Kinnear responded angrily to Shearer's comments in an interview in the Sunday Times, and highlighted the former England striker's failure to keep Newcastle in the Premier League in the final eight games of the 2008-09 season, when he succeeded Kinnear after he had suffered a heart attack.

"What Shearer says is diabolical," said Kinnear. "This is a guy who hasn't got a clue about coaching."

He added: "The last game of the [2008-09] season he came up with the master idea of playing Damien Duff at left-back. Damien is one of the best left-wingers in the business, but can't tackle. And we went down with an own goal from Damien. Shearer keeps slagging me off. He is being disrespectful to me. I am entitled to fight back."

The interview with the Sunday Times was his first in print since returning to Newcastle, following on from two colourful and controversial interviews on television and radio where he made a number of erroneous claims, mispronounced the names of several players and claimed he had "more intelligence" than Magpies supporters.

Interesting...................... :p

Shearer should have replied "This is a guy who hasn't got a clue about playing."

I am rather partial to coaches who were top players in their time, people like Pep, Carlo Anchelotti, Paulo Di Canio, Gianfranco Zola, Bernd Schuster, Luis Enrique etc. Doesn't mean that they are good coaches/managers, but just like them more.

Not so much guys like Jose Mourinho, Kenny Rogers, Andre VB, etc etc etc............................. :D

While Shearer may not be a good example, enterprise does have a valid point regarding good players being bad coaches. There are plenty of good players who turned out to be lousy coaches - Roy Keane, Paul Ince, Graeme Sounness, Gareth Southgate, Stuart Pierce and even Mark Hughes can be considered a failed coach.

And the reverse is also true - average players become good coaches - Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho are in this category.

agreed - just goes to show that that the adage of a person rising up to his level of incompetence rings true till this day...and blessed are those that are aware of this.

fandi's a so-so coach at best. he refused to coach Lionsxii cos too young, no $ n no star players / fts...

Didn't know the last French President wife Carla Bruni was a football coach...which club did she manage???

alamak, look at the smiley lah....Apart from being a coach she is a superb goalie, always saving a 2 goal penalty :D
