If you are lean towards Christianity because you believe it is the truth, then by all go ahead immerse yourselves in Christianity.

If however you lean towards Cristianity simply because you are confused on issue of vegetarianism and anti-killing, then it is the wrong reason to decide on your religion. In fact, you should start looking at a range of religions including Hinduim, Islam, Janism, Jeudasm, etc.

This shows the fact that the thread originator are ignorance of the working of Buddhism and that he is not a Buddhist to start with. He is also relating the nun to those fake Thai monks and nuns who were featured on newspaper earlier.

Practise of Vegetarianism and anti killing is a personal thing and one who practises such rules does not impose on others. Those who do failed to understand the essence of Buddhism.

Having vegetarian food readily available does not mean that all Buddhist monks and nuns must take vegetarian. There are also many Buddhist who are not vegetarians. In fact, the original Buddhist teachings do not have such rules, Vegetarianism is due to Taoist influence.

It also depends on the condition of the meat. There are 3 rules regarding the meat:

1) You are not to see the killing;
2) You are not to hear of the killing;
3) The killing is not a result of you;

Further more, this is more of an alm base meal, she has to accept.

well said, many did not know of these 3 clean meat rules. this is the proper buddhism teaching and it has logics (with many stories in sutta) behind why strict vegetarian is not a must but merely a personal choice.

Vegetarian Buddhism is a Chinese Mahayana concept.

Those who've been in Thailand and seen Theravada Buddhism in practice knows there's nothing wrong with eating meat.

Anyway, I'd prefer monks who eat meat, walk in sandals than monks who wear Rolex and drive Mercedes. I'd prefer monks who accept an offer of ciggie and smoke than monks who live in condos stocked with pornos.

In Chinese Mahayana, there's this legendary monk Jigong 济公。He supposedly ate dog meat and drink wine all day long. This legend story was of course written to mock those who impose practices but have no spirit of kindness at heart and in spirit.

There is nothing to apologise to start with. I am just concern that choosing the right faith is crucial to ones direction in life. Even if you are an atheist, there is also an ahteist faith and one has to believe it is true to put in commitment. The most important thing is that you find peace through your faith.

I would not call the chicken stupid, it has no choice when it was born into this world. Even if it is not killed on the spot, it is still indirectly link to the nun on its death, although in this case the link is relatively weak.
