The virtual choir comprising 95 singers from all walks of life performed this year’s National Day theme song “Stronger Together”. Well done!

Catching up with Show Director Adrian Pang before the event. A lot of effort was put into the conceptualisation and execution to portray the theme of “Stronger Together, Majulah!”.

The Padang has been gazetted as a national monument, joining 74 other national monuments in Singapore.

This is where we’ve had many shared memories as a nation. It is where we held the first National Day Parade on 9 August 1966, after our separation from Malaysia in the previous year. It is also where our National Day Parade will be held next year!

With my Bedok and former Tampines grassroots leaders, as well as national treasure Rahimah Rahim at the National Day Reception at the Istana last night.
We have not held this annual gathering since the pandemic. So yesterday’s event was especially special!
There were lots of joy and laughter, as we got reconnected with old acquaintances and made new ones.
Life may have thrown us a curveball. But we pulled through together. Let us stay united even as we encounter more bumps ahead.

HSK lived out his dream to be a pilot.

Lived out my dream to be a pilot, momentarily, in a flight simulator when I visited MITRE Asia Pacific Singapore (MAPS).
MAPS is a partnership between the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and MITREcorp. MITRE operates federally funded research in the United States and this is its first R&D facility outside of the US. The flight simulator is currently used to test new ways of communications between the pilots and air traffic control.
There were other projects to improve collision prevention and to maximise the departure capacity of a runway, among others. In addition to developing new innovations that can be used in other parts of the world, MAPS also adapts existing tech to suit our local context.
This strong spirit of collaboration is crucial to keep our skies safer, more efficient, and consequently greener. Only when we work together can we achieve greater things and soar to greater heights.

Learning more about the Conflict Resolution Tool (CREST) from MAPS System Engineer, Natasha Ong. She shared how the tool uses AI to advise Air Traffic Controllers on how to resolve conflicts in the airspace.

Natasha graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in Engineering Product Development. Always happy to see women in STEM!

The minimum separation required between aircraft on departure is not a constant, but varies depending on the type and size of the aircraft. MAPS has a Departure Spacing Tool that indicates when it is safe for an aircraft to depart.

Wrapped up our National Day celebrations at the Singapore Symphony Orchestra National Day Concert yesterday!
What a night of wonderful performances! It was also great to have the Singapore Symphony Chorus, Singapore Symphony Youth Choir and Singapore Symphony Children's Choir singing along on stage this year. The new rendition of our national day song ‘Home’ was particularly heartfelt!
If you missed the concert, you can watch the recorded live stream on YouTube here:

With some of the performers and composers at the concert. Congratulations on the great show!

Also chatted with some of them, including Conductor Darrell Ang (on my left). He is currently chief conductor of The Sichuan Orchestra of China and was the youngest associate conductor at the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in 2008. Impressive!

From its humble beginnings as a small provision shop back in the 1980s, Sheng Siong has grown into one of Singapore’s largest supermarket chains, with more than 60 outlets islandwide.
I visited their headquarters and warehouse today with Gan Siow Huang 颜晓芳 to learn more about their remarkable transformation journey. During COVID-19, they digitalised and developed their own applications to track crowds in the stores.
Throughout this growth journey, I'm glad that workers remain at the heart of what they do. Sheng Siong’s CEO Mr Lim is constantly walking the ground, gathering feedback and looking for areas to improve on. Through the SkillsFuture SG Queen Bee programme, Sheng Siong has also helped their suppliers upskill their workers and grow.
This spirit of mutual support is what we need to grow our economy and improve the lives of our workers.
Also had lunch with Mr Lim at their staff canteen. It was a simple but very tasty meal!

As part of staff welfare, Sheng Siong Supermarket provides lunch to their employees daily. I joined the Sheng Siong team for lunch together with Siow Huang and SBF CEO Lam Yi Young. It was delicious!

Visiting Sheng Siong’s distribution centre to learn more about their pick-to-light system. This system helps to process incoming orders from stores by picking goods according to an automated light system which will indicate where the goods can be found.
