SIA planes are taking to the skies again, but they are flying into a very different aviation world that has emerged from the shadows of COVID-19.
Today, I got a glimpse of what a much more digital aviation world might look like when I launched the SIA-NUS Digital Aviation Corporate Laboratory. With the use of AI, data science, VR and other technologies, Singapore Airlines and National University of Singapore are seeking to transform the way pilots train, improve the experience of passengers and the well-being of cabin crew.
The innovation generated will benefit not just SIA, but also the broader aviation industry. I hope more companies will likewise strengthen their partnerships with our research ecosystem.

Wishing the very best to all students who will be receiving their ‘O’ Level results tomorrow!

Growing up and adjusting to this pandemic has not been easy, so be proud of yourselves regardless of the outcome. Take some time to explore your options and next steps. You can do this with your teachers and parents, too. I hope you stay curious and resourceful and seize opportunities that may come your way. You are young and have an exciting learning journey ahead, so keep going!

Kudos to Google for running a successful Skills Ignition SG programme! The one thing Edmund, Shumin and Melissa shared was how they have not only benefited from it, but also how they enjoyed the process.

The programme was launched by Google in 2020 in partnership with Singapore Economic Development Board - EDB, Infocomm Media Development Authority - IMDA and SkillsFuture SG to boost the employment and employability of fresh graduates and mid-career professionals.

[R-L] Sherie Ng, Country Director, Google Cloud; Edmund Wee, Partner Experience Specialist; Shumin Ong, Product Marketing Manager; Melissa Tan, Accelerated Growth Strategist.

Nice to see that more activities are able to take place for this year’s Pongal Festival, which starts tomorrow!

Pongal is a four-day harvest festival traditionally celebrated by farmers in the Tamil community. One of the days is set aside to honour the cattle, and this year, you’ll be able to see cows, calves and goats on exhibit at a cattle farm in Little India. The Indian Heritage Centre has also organised many activities at an open house that will run until 16 Jan, so do check them out.

I wish everyone celebrating Pongal an abundance of joy, prosperity and health!

HSK visits the Centre for Strategic Infocomm Technologies.

Today, I visited a defence agency that has been keeping a low profile – the Centre for Strategic Infocomm Technologies, together with Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen.
The men and women at CSIT might not be wearing green, but these techies work behind the scenes to develop digital solutions for our national security needs, including cyber defence and counter-terrorism. The digital revolution is not only changing how we live, work and play, but also how we defend ourselves.
During the visit, the team showed me their deep and integrated capabilities in cyber security, data analytics, software engineering, and cloud computing. They also demonstrated how these capabilities can be deployed to deal with real-life sophisticated actors. The problems that they solve may be atypical, but they are no less challenging or exciting than those in the start-ups and tech companies I visited.

I would love to have an interesting discussion with him about his imminent 2nd stroke.

When he retires from politics in the next election after having no portfolio for nearly 2 years, he will probably be in better health than all his younger colleagues.
