East Coast Plan unveiled

With dining-in suspended, do support our hawkers as you “dabao” your food. If you can, do bring along your own containers!
Many of you have gone online to order your meals. Glad that some of our hawkers in East Coast and island-wide have gone digital by hopping on food delivery platforms to meet this demand. Hawkers at Blk 16 Bedok South Food Centre and The Marketplace @ 58 have told me that they found these digital solutions useful for sustaining their businesses.
But many of our hawkers have not done so. Some have experienced a sharp drop in business, beyond the support by government to cushion the impact. While we stay at home as much as possible, if you are thinking of a ready-cooked meal, you can go down to your favourite neighbourhood hawker stalls and support them.
By supporting one another, we can get through this difficult period together!

Here in East Coast, our Town Council has been stepping up the frequency of cleaning and disinfection at common areas such as lift landings and staircase railings. Our conservancy workers have been hard at work doing their bit to safeguard the health of residents. They have always been essential in our towns and neighbourhoods. A heartfelt thank you to all of them for their hard work!
Do show your appreciation to them when you see them around the neighbourhood. Let’s also do our part by keeping our surroundings clean and litter-free.

We are two weeks into Phase 2 (Heightened Alert). We had earlier extended help to those most immediately impacted by the tightened restrictions, through the Jobs Support Scheme (JSS) and rental reliefs. But there are other sectors that have also been affected, and we have listened carefully to the feedback from businesses, union leaders and workers.
This is why Minister Lawrence Wong announced today that we will enhance support given under the JSS for the sectors that have been significantly affected. This round of measures also includes rental relief for SMEs and non-profit organisations. For lower- and middle-income individuals affected, they can tap on the new COVID-19 Recovery Grant. You can read more details here: https://go.gov.sg/mof28may
We will need to continue to be agile and adapt to the fast-changing situation. I am heartened that companies and business owners have been doing their part to innovate and change their business models. Some have provided online services or classes, while others have pivoted to new delivery models.
This COVID-19 battle is still far from over. As long as we stay united and resilient — we can get through this together.

The June holidays are here. Many students and their families will be disappointed that we cannot have our usual vacation activities. But we can be creative and find ways for families to learn and enjoy activities together, while staying safe indoors.
We can have fun activities indoors, including physical activities! You can also read to your child, which is a great way to bond. The National Library Board, Singapore has a wide collection of resources. Each of us can borrow up to 32 items — 16 physical books and 16 e-books. The loan period has also been extended from three to six weeks. Do plan early and monitor the crowd levels before visiting: https://go.gov.sg/library-visit-booking
The National Museum of Singapore also has many digital programmes — parents and kids can enjoy online storytelling, workshops and performances. You can check out the Museum's June Holidays Family Fun campaign here: https://go.gov.sg/nmsgjune
Spending more time at home during the holidays can still be enjoyable. But we have to adapt, especially as COVID-19 is likely to be with us for some time.

Happy holidays! Take care and stay safe! And do share your ideas!

But his info on borrowing 16 physical books and 16 e-books is quite useful. Thank you DPM!

Earlier today, PM and the Multi-Ministry Taskforce gave an update on the COVID-19 situation.
Thanks to everyone’s cooperation under the Heightened Alert phase, we are on track to bring this outbreak under control. If the situation continues to improve, we hope to be able to relax the restrictions after 13 June.
But we must be prepared that there will be more infectious variants of the virus to come. We are therefore working on faster and broader testing, speeding up contact tracing, and vaccinating our people faster.
From 1 June, we will progressively vaccinate over 400,000 students from schools and Institutes of Higher Learning. After our students, we will vaccinate the remaining group, adults 39 years and younger. I strongly urge those who are eligible to come forward to be vaccinated.
The virus is still raging around the world — so we must continue to observe our safe management measures, adopt good hygiene practices and keep each other safe.

Although physical Meet-the-People sessions have been suspended for the time being, the team at Bedok Branch continues to listen to residents’ concerns, and assist wherever we can.
A big thank you to my volunteers for your dedication! They have been diligently attending to emails or speaking with residents on the phone, to learn more about residents’ situations, and see how we can best assist them.
We are all looking forward to the COVID-19 situation stabilising soon, when we can return to seeing you and one another face-to-face at physical MPS sessions. Until then, try to stay home as much as possible and keep safe.

HSK should be attending to e-mails and speaking to residents on the phone, and not relying on volunteers to do the job for him.:eek::biggrin:
