The largest private badminton hall in Singapore – with 24 courts available for booking – is now in East Coast!
Happy to join my fellow Advisers and residents at the launch of the Singapore Badminton Hall (SBH) at Singapore EXPO on Saturday morning. Many families, friends and avid badminton players had a great workout as we smashed the record for the longest badminton rally and entered the Singapore Books of Records.

Gathered with grassroots, community leaders, and volunteers at the annual Chinese New Year garden party at the Istana. Our grassroots leaders play an important role in building a cohesive community. They provide social support to our residents, help explain policies, and also organise activities to foster closer community bonds.
My thanks to all grassroots leaders for your dedication and contributions in serving the community!

A new space to-gather!
Happy to officiate the launch of Our Residents' Hub at 新加坡福建会馆 Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan over the weekend!
This new mobile hub will enable residents to connect with one another through activities and workshops, as we build a more vibrant East Coast community. Glad that many residents joined us to celebrate this milestone, and enjoyed a fun-filled day of activities, workshops and performances!
My thanks to Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan for their support and partnership with Lucky C.O.M RNs to establish this facility within their space. Do look out for more exciting activities and programmes coming up at Our Residents' Hub!

Spoke in support of #SGBudget2024 during the Budget Debate in Parliament today.
Growing our economy is a key focus of this year’s Budget, and a perennial preoccupation for Singapore. We are a small and open economy that depends on our connections to the region and the world to thrive.
This is why we have been working hard to transform the economy and secure our next bound of growth through:
- Strong co-ownership and leadership by all stakeholders – businesses, unions, trade associations and chambers; workers – for our transformation movement;
- Strengthening our innovation ecosystem; and
- Fostering greater collaboration to deepen our position as a Global-Asia node for technology, innovation and enterprise.
Transformation takes time, but our collective hard work so far has translated into productivity gains and real income growth for Singaporeans. Let us press on and continue to work together to seize new opportunities, keep our economy vibrant, and create opportunities for all!

HSK spent a meaningful Saturday morning.

Spent a meaningful Saturday morning with our Bedok Youth Network volunteers and Temasek Junior College students at our annual “Rice to the Occasion” food distribution at Bedok CC.
Through South East CDC - Your Social Broker’s “Walk for Rice” initiative, students from Temasek JC, Springfield Secondary School and Dunman Secondary School raised over 27,000 bowls of oats, white and brown rice for beneficiaries. Each student covered over 30km!
Glad to see our Bedok seniors taking part in the various booths and activities too, learning about scam prevention, digital literacy, eating healthy, and staying active! By staying connected with one another and helping out where we can, we can build a more caring East Coast together.
We Love Bedok

Delighted to launch the “East Coast Cares Network” together with our corporate partners last Friday!
Our partners play an integral role in making a positive impact on the East Coast community. From collaborating with our GRC to organise programmes, to conducting outreach and organising donations, they are passionate about building a stronger community and uplifting those in need.
Through stronger partnerships with these like-minded partners and organisations, we can turn good ideas into action and co-create a more Green, Vibrant and Caring East Coast together.
Thank you once again to all our partners!

Had a wonderful time at the ASCares Carnival at Bedok Town Square !
Organised by Temasek Polytechnic’s Applied Science Studies Club (ASCSC) students, the carnival had booths to raise awareness among seniors on health issues like dementia and diabetes, as well as lesser known conditions like geriatric depression and sarcopenia (loss of muscle mass and strength). The students shared useful tips on healthy eating and muscle strengthening, which not only enhance general wellness, but can help prevent some of the chronic health conditions.
Good to hear from seniors that many of them have already signed up for HealthierSG, and are making active efforts to lead healthier lifestyles.
A big thank you to our students for organising this meaningful activity to support our seniors in keeping healthy and happy!

Happy to meet residents and stall owners bright and early last Saturday, during my East Coast GRC team’s walkabout at The Marketplace@58 and its vicinity.
We shared with residents the latest measures introduced by the government at the Budget recently. Many of the residents were relieved that the government was continuing with cost of living support for households, including more CDC vouchers! Some also shared with us that they plan to utilise credits under the new SkillsFu…

HSK remembers his time as a policeman with much fondness.

I remember my time as a policeman with much fondness, working alongside dedicated officers from the Singapore Police Force (SPF) to safeguard the safety and security of our people.
While our officers perform their duties dutifully regardless of recognition, the award of medals and badges boost morale and spur our officers to achieve greater heights.
I visited a medal exhibition by ELM - Eng Leong Medallic Industries Private Limited (ELM), which showcases a remarkable collection of over 130 medals collected over the span of SPF’s existence — some of them were from the colonial era! ELM itself has an interesting story, starting out as a hardware company along Dunlop street, and now operating a manufacturing facility producing high quality medals and state accolades.
Do drop by the exhibition if you are interested to learn more about the history of SPF. It could make for a good March holiday outing too! You may contact ELM at https://elm.com.sg/200-years-of-law-enforcement.../ for more information.

Happy International Women’s Day!
Women are our everyday heroes – they are pillars of grace and strength at home, in the workplace, and within our community.
In Bedok, we have a group of beautiful ladies from Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities who are known as our “Bedok Dancing Queens”. They are from diverse backgrounds and bond over a shared love for dancing. Their performances at our community events are always well-received, as they spread cheer and inspire everyone with their enthusiasm!
Like our Dancing Queens, my wish is for our girls and women to always pursue your passion, live to your fullest potential, and find like-minded allies who will enrich your journey!

HSK visited the Singapore Navy Museum with East Coast residents.

Visited the Singapore Navy Museum with East Coast residents yesterday, to “dive” into the history of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and its important role in our nation’s defence.
As a global maritime hub, maintaining open and safe sea lines of communication is existential to Singapore’s growth and survival. By keeping our waters safe and secure, the RSN also contributes to regional peace, trade and development.
From guns and torpedos from earlier decades, to warships and submarines, as well as interactive displays charting the Navy’s advancement, the museum is a wonderful showcase of the RSN’s evolving capabilities — and testament to the courage and endurance of our brave men and women at sea.
The museum makes for an interesting and enjoyable experience with family and friends, especially during these March school holidays. Those who are keen to visit can find out more from: https://navymuseum.defencecollectivesg.com/

Dropped by the DBS Foundation Community pop-up market last weekend. This is a wonderful initiative by DBS in partnership with South East CDC - Your Social Broker and SG Cares Volunteer Centre @ Bedok, which is operated by Filos Community Services.
Over 600 East Coast beneficiaries, including families and seniors, could pick their choice of groceries and essential household items at the market, assisted by volunteers from DBS and SGCares.
A big thank you to our partners and all volunteers for your dedication and commitment in the weeks leading up to the pop-up market! Look forward to seeing more such collaborations between corporate and grassroots organisations that benefit the community!

Had a good dialogue with members of the Teochew Federation at its Current Affairs Forum on Monday.
We spoke about #SGBudget2024 and how it addresses the immediate concerns of Singaporeans and our businesses while continuing to build long-term capabilities through SkillsFuture SG and business transformation. Glad to hear that the audience viewed the Budget measures positively and are keen to partner the government to create a brighter future for all.
I encouraged the Teochew community to build upon the notion of “潮州人 – 自己人”, and work with other dialect groups and ethnicities to deepen mutual understanding and strengthen Singapore’s unique multicultural society. The Teochews have a proud heritage of charitable giving, and can continue to play an important role in building a caring and inclusive Singapore.

HSK had an engaging conversation.

Had an engaging conversation on personal finance with residents at the Seedly x East Coast GRC Community Meetup at HeartbeatBedok.
Financial planning is important for ensuring that we have the capacity to deal with curveballs like employment or health shocks. I related my own experience of suffering a stroke in 2016, and urged residents to take care of their finances and their health. Also encouraged everyone to take up the newly enhanced SkillsFuture SG Level Up Programme, as a way of investing in their learning and career development.
Glad to see residents young and old actively participating and sharing their perspectives on financial management. It is never too early or late to begin your own financial planning journey, and I hope everyone came away from the discussions with useful insights on making informed personal finance decisions.
My thanks to Seedly as well as fellow panellists from DBS, Beansprout and Moomoo for sharing your expertise and bringing personal finance knowledge to our East Coast residents!
