HSK misses his Ah Gong.
Eight years ago today, Mr Lee Kuan Yew left us. He would have turned 100 years old this year.
Our Founding Prime Minister was a visionary leader who dedicated his entire life to building a Singapore where all citizens have the opportunity to build a better life for themselves and their families. He and the founding fathers worked with our Pioneer Generation to secure a strong foundation for Singapore, from our world-class education system, to our resilient economy and our beautiful greenery.
We Singaporeans owe a debt of gratitude to Mr Lee. I was privileged to have served as his Principal Private Secretary and witnessed first-hand, his lifelong commitment to building a Singapore where all could thrive, regardless of race, language or religion.
Much has changed since Singapore’s independence, but the need to keep thinking creatively and working together to keep Singapore relevant and successful, remains.
On this 100th anniversary of Mr Lee’s birth this year, let us all, young and old, take time to learn more about and reflect upon the values and ideals that Mr Lee stood for, as we keep Singapore secure, prosperous and united, with opportunities for all.
