In any case, not all the 60% who voted for the PAP are pro-PAP. Quite a sizable voted for them simply out of fear. Many are still not convinced that our votes are secret. And after seeing what LKY had done to those (where even their family members were not spared) who went against him, they would want to pre-empt any of that. If you strip that off the 60%, probably PAP had only about 35% of the people's support. The Presidential Election was a better gauge of the people's sentiments actually with Tony Tan the obvious PAP candidate garnering only 33%.

So far, I gather that the pap leaders are below the power curve. They are struggling and the various issues they face can not be attributed to any single root cause..in fact the causes are complex and multi-faceted.

The MRT problem can be traced to inbreeding, putting your own guys in-charge regardless of whether she can do the job or not. The MRT problem is also due to huge influx of foreigners, oberwhelming demand for train rides but inelastic supply and the tracks being overused and the trains are overweight. so where does MOT start with? Change incompetent Management staff? buy more trains? strengthen the tracks? reduce the weight of each fully occupied carriage? LTY is lost!

The COE problem is due to increased demand for cars as many foreigners take up residency in SG. The COE problem is compounded because the buses and trains are congested. The COE problem causes business costs to rise. The COE problem causes cost of living to go up. So where does LTY start to solve the COE problem? Increase COE quota? That will cause more road congestion. Improve bus and MRT services so that demand for cars goes down? Reduce number of foreigners into SG..but LHL says that SG must continue to take in foreigners.

GKY finds it hard to solve the hospital bed shortages and keep health care givers moral high. Ageing population needs more health care...more foreigners coming into SG also need more health care...healthcare workers work harder ...so how does GKY solve conflicting needs?

The pap realises that the problems SG faces are complex and interconnected...it has no answer now and is slaving hard to unravel and try to connect the dots to find the compex web of inter-related issues.

Will more problems surface in the near future?

Actually, the PAP does know what to do to address these problems. It's just that they refused to admit that they were wrong in the past and so don't want to reverse their policies completely, instead coming up with minor tweaks that not only do not solve the problems but confuses everyone instead. Take for example, Lim Chong Yah's recent call for "shock therapy" to bring the wage level of the lower income group to be more equitable. All the PAP leaders immediately gunned it down saying that it won't work. Why? Because if they agree, it's a direct admission that they had been wrong all these while. But look what the same PAP leaders are saying now. They are actually offering solutions that are simply putting what LCY is advocating in another way. But they are basically the same solution as what LCY called for.

And why can't the PAP admit they had been wrong? Simple. Because of one man. That one man can never accept anyone saying that he can be wrong, for that matter, can ever wrong. So while some of the PAP members know exactly that their policies had failed (miserably in fact), no one would dare suggest that. Not even his son. And that's the saddest thing about S'pore.

I know that many Singaporeans are very busy and dont have time to read beyond what the SG media reports.

There are some very good alternative voices that speak the truth but are censored by the SG media.

It is up to Singaporeans to surface such voices and truths to counter the propaganda dished out by PAP controlled SG media

Well said. The first step to correct the ills in SG is for the pap to admit their mistakes

Let's give the pap one year and see whether it can rectify and repair the damage it has done to our transport system. As Tracy said, are the breakdowns a precursor to worse things to come? do we need to experience a dislodged train track before the pap wakes up? a dislodged track will cause the MRT train to run off the rail and crash..

Yes, I think the pap refuses to admit their mistakes..the huge influx of foreigners within sucha short time is a gross mistake.

Not all money making is good for Singapore. So the pap has to really take a hard look to see whether money making public listed transport is good for SG or is a non profit transport organisation better.

There are also many other areas the pap need to re-examine.

So the pap has its hands full.

Yes. ckmpd is indeed doing a great job. Takes alot of hard work to extract them so diligently. But it's all worth it. For too long S'poreans had been bombarded incessantly with the PAP propaganda through its media whores like the Strait Times, Zaobao and Mediacorp (and their earlier incarnations). Fortunately there's now the social media that can provide the "real" voices to the people. It's beginning to have its effect as can be seen in the last GE, but it will take time as the people had been very thoroughly brainwashed by the PAP that would require substantial amount of undoing, but it's gathering pace. People like ckmpd certainly adds to this process, really appreciate it. Compliments to you too, Tracy, for raising pertinent issues to stem political apathy, something which the PAP has successfully cultivated and hope to remain so. But it's a losing battle for them with people like yourself, ckmpd, Scroobal, auranvandil, Fook Seng, zhihau and many others doing good here.

Some people think that we are anti pap...but actually we are just pro Singapore. There are so many things going wrong in Sg and these will have huge repercussions to all Singaporeans in the future.

We must continue to speak up.

My fear is that the pap will use money and coercion to divide and continue to try to rule Singaporeans.

Singapore is also one of the least corrupt countries in the world. While citizens bitch of minor glitches in backdrop of cleanliness and efficiency, foreigners continue to flock to the country to work and settle because they know what it's like to live in a real shit hole.

If Rupert Murdoch isn't qualified because he hasn't been there, then I am eminently qualified because I spent 40 years in Singapore, 10 years in Australia and 5 years in NZ and I can categorically state that if you measure the bottom line, the Singapore govt is the best that I have experienced when it comes to getting things done and done quickly.

other government is not able to do things quickly because they don't have to. it is their in culture to take it slowly.
