Crumbling of Singapore?

What is the point you are making here. The couple should not have kids because they are genetically problematic ? They are buying insurance and likely to use it hence making other policy owners "pay" for it ? Or you do not agree with their life choice ? ........

I think they are smart and responsible to buy insurance to protect their children from financial difficulties and the high cost of living and medical cost in Singapore. They are working hard just like you did. They bought insurance so that they are more independent should a bad thing happen to them. So I really do not get your point.

It is their life choice to be in this less than ideal state but I am sure many of us heard of cases the other way around. Couple making tons of money and do not want to have kids because too busy and money not enough. Last week heard over the radio of 2 such cases. One was a couple earning > 25 K pm, wanted government help to teach them how to handle stress so that they can have a 3rd child. Other couple, one doctor and one teacher, say money not enough because they send both kids to childcare that is $1.2K pm and blar blar expenses. Which family would you give sympathy ?

Neither one of them.

It was a timely sojourn and free from the Internet.

The PAP took a bad wrong turn when it tried to run Singapore like a corporation in the early 2000s. Because of that wrong turn, the pap:

1. compared themselves to a Management Board instead of political leaders
2. paid themselves corporate pays nad behaved like CEOs rather than politicians
3. recruited pap members who entered politics for the wrong reasons
4. pampered to foreigners eg foreign chambers of commerce at the expense of native Singaporeans well being
5. pegged their bonuses to GDP growth
6. went all out to achieve max GDP growth so as to get the max bonuses to the detriment of SG workers

The pap has prostituted itself and singapore to foreigners, granting them easy and cheap access into Singapore. Will the pap now have the courage to stand up to foreign businesses and reverse its bad policies?

The WP has done well to reject the White Paper on population growth to 6.9m. I hope that some pap MPs will also stand up to ciriticise the Paper and the debate will be so robust that LHL and TCH are compelled to rethink the assumptions and recommendations of the pap.

Hopefully Singaporean voices will be heard

Neither one of them.

The foreign businesses want to come here to enjoy the good infrastructure and well educated population. The businesses dont want to locate to China nor Myanmar nor India nor Vietnam, etc because the native people are not like Singaporeans. But yet these businesses want to be here and pay 3rd world worker rates...and the pap allow them to do so far.

When is the pap going to wake up and tell these foreign businesses they cant have the cake and eat it. Either they stay in Delhi and pay indian worker rate , stay in Yangoon and pay Myanmar rates or remain here and pay 6th most expensive city rate.

Does the pap have the courage to do the right thing?

where is a good place to migrate to?

as for me, I will remain in SG...Singapore is my home

Honestly there is no "good place" to migrate to.

No countries, even those ruled by true-blue corrupted leaders will willingly opn up their countries to anyone like us, despite our high qualifications.

Singapore leadership is behaving like pimps that "offer" Singapore as a harlot of sorts for foreigners to "enjoy' temporarily.

Remember, what the French guy with a local wife said when asked why he does not want a Singapore passport. It was in the recent Sunday Times.

His reply "sickened" me as a Singaporean for it was a veiled reference that Singapore was indeed a cheap prostitute. That summarized my personal views.

So, at the end of the day, we have to remai here as NO foreign countries, no matter how poor, will ever allow their country to "open" her legs to foreigners.

The pap has made Singapore a cheap prostitute.

I didnt read what the Frenchman said..but if that's what he said abt Singapore, I agree with him.

I dont blame foreigners nor businesses who come to Singapore, enjoy and exploit the infrastructure and peace early generations of singaporeans had toiled for. It is the pap's fault for making it so easy for these foreigners to exploit Singapore and thinking that it is their right to come here to do business and pay singaporeans third world wages.

It's all PAP's fault. It's so sad to see what our fore fathers had worked so hard for...but their children get exploited by the pap and foreign businesses

Remember this when the GE comes

That French guy replied that he does not want to exchange his original domicile and at the end of the day wants to "treasure" his citizenship.

My late father worked till he fall dead.

As children we lived on the generosity of the kampong folks.

We were worse off then "poverty-stricken" DR Koh Poh Koon.

Yes, we can change for change is within our powers as entrusted in the Elections Act.

The power of change lies in the ballot box.

Come 2016 and hope the PAP lose more GRCs in the East.

LKY words of REPENT will come true for none other then the current PAP leadership filled with children of past leaders.

That French guy is right. Anyone who has travelled and has lived long will know that Singapore is a facade.

Many of us experienced poverty and our parents worked hard to build up Singapore to what it is today...and within 10years, the PAP and LHL have prostituted SG to foreigners and undone the achievement of our parents

Is that what you really think of the homeland. I am proud to be a Singaporean. Aren't you? If you think the PAP Government has brought same to Singaporeans, then come out in the open and shame them. Hiding behind a computer and trading insults just isn't the same.

Do you really want to see a major change in the government?
Do you really want another party to run the country.
Tell me why do you think that the other party will do better.
To get to power you always sing the same tune and after that they forget about their promises....
I have seen just too many of such election propaganda to believe in mere words.....

The pap has inflicted untold damage to Singapore and Singaporeans. the effects will be seen in the future and future generations will suffer for pap's present mistakes

I certainly want to see a complete change of govt. The present pap has totally mismanaged SG and Singaporeans. Singapore, together with Korea, Taiwan and HK, was one of four Tiger economies in Asian in the 1970s.

look what has happened to Korea nd Taiwan. Korea has Samsung Galaxy, Hyundai, LG , high tech industries and has launched rockets into space. Korea has gone hi tech. SG is struggling , wanting more cheap labour. SG has gone into vices rather than build hi tech products and service. the pap has taken the easy way out by legalising prostitution and encouraging vices like gambling and casinos...these activities will bring ruin to the country

look what the pap has done to SG...Singapore is a place for cheap labour now...NTUC and Shop and Save have 24hr supermarkets because of cheap labour...we shd not allow cheap labour because cheap labour comes with severe social costs..why do we need 24 hr supermarkets?

In aus, a garbage truck has only one worker...he drives and uses a mini forklift to empty the garbage bin..in SG, because pap gives in to businesses, a garbage truck has three workers, one driver and two attendants..because labour is cheap, semcorp doesnt see the need to innovate and improve productivity

We used to have automatic car wash that had only one or two workers...now petrol station car washes have six workers because labour is cheap.

Does the pap know this is the wrong way to manage an expensive country like SG... we cant be importing cheap labour to sustain the foreign businesses at the expense of SG

what I want is a govt which works for our people which pap does not.

so to me, pap must be voted out before it inflicts more damages

Yes that is EXACTLY what I think of these homeland as nothing but a bag of shit. Kohliantye........

You may have "selfish and temporary" reasons to be proud of being a Singaporean. You have a right to your views and let others have theirs too. One man food is another's poison. A dame to you may be beautiful but to others she would be an ugly, stinking, rotunda and worthless...

Pray tell me which country in the world, not even Zimbabwe, has laws that criminalises a group of 2 as "illegal assembly". So how to "come out in the open"?

Newbird9403, you seems to be ignorant of all the above laws and hence harps only of childish stuff like that underlined in bold RED.

That arrogant attitude was practised by the old leadership and it led to the early decay of the PAPs once solid foundations.

The PAP should by now realise that there are people that instead of propping it up again are actually pulling it down faster. There are so many such people in this Forum who taunt others with words like "Hiding Behind A Computer"

These are the people who are bringing the PAP on its knees. I just hope LKY is reading this for him to realise.

We are the Singaporeans who are actually worried about the future of Singapore for we are truly passionate and look at the Far Horizons. Sadly some people's gaze is too short...

Yes a major change of the government will be ideal for Singapore and for the future of your kids and those that has to come, or may have arrived.

Yes, it is time for another party to run Singapore. 50 long years with PAP has bred nothing but arrogance, greedy politicians and broken promises.

Yes, off course another party can do better. Remember that the PAP rode into power on the backs of the shoulders of the citizens. At the end of the day it abandoned those citizens for selfish personal pursuits.

See another election and you will view it differently. There won't be Khaws, MBTs, WKSs, CCSs and many others.

What can $1350 buy today?

Our top politicians are earning close to $3000 PER DAY. Still No Enuf!!!

Poor daughter is sick and there is no financial assistance or advice from those in power.

Off course these politicians will say help is on hand. But nothing is publicised anywhere as to how to get it and what are the criteria to meet.

Finally I am further shocked to hear that the competition for trash collection by our truly "poor and out" and those that need to survive, is getting fiercer and fiercer by the day that "new-players" had to find newer areas to "mine" the trash.

I hope there won't be fights over turf as what happened in the 80's when newspaper vendors were murdered in "territorial-disputes".

Shame on the highly-paid politicians among us.

A Story From Venice:

"I sat with my friend in a well-known coffee shop in a neighboring town of
Venice, the city of lights and water. As we enjoyed our coffee, a man
entered and sat on an empty table beside us.

He called the waiter and placed his order saying, "Two cups of coffee, one
of them there on the wall". We heard this order with rather interest and
observed that he was served with one cup of coffee but he paid for two. As
soon as he left, the waiter pasted a piece of paper on the wall saying "A
Cup of Coffee".

While we were still there, two other men entered and ordered three cups of
coffee, two on the table and one on the wall. They had two cups of coffee
but paid for three and left. This time also, the waiter did the same; he
pasted a piece of paper on the wall saying, "A Cup of Coffee".

It seemed that this gesture was a norm at this place. However, it was
something unique and perplexing for us. Since we had nothing to do with the
matter, we finished our coffee, paid the bill and left.

After a few days, we again had a chance to go to this coffee shop. While we
were enjoying our coffee, a man entered. The way this man was dressed did
not match the standard nor the atmosphere of this coffee shop.

Poverty was evident from the looks on his face. As he seated himself, he
looked at the wall and said, "one cup of coffee from the wall". The waiter
served coffee to this man with the customary respect and dignity.

The man had his coffee and left without paying. We were amazed to watch all
this when the waiter took off a piece of paper from the wall and threw it
in the dust bin. Now it was no surprise for us the matter was very clear.
The great respect for the needy shown by the inhabitants of this town
welled up our eyes with tears.

Coffee is not a need of our society neither a necessity of life for us. The
point to note is that when we take pleasure in any blessing, maybe we also
need to think about those people who appreciate that specific blessing as
much as we do but they cannot afford to have it.

Note the character of this waiter, who is playing a consistent and generous
role to get the communication going between the affording and the needy
with a smile on his face.

Ponder upon this man in need. He enters the coffee shop without having to
lower his self-esteem he has no need to ask for a free cup of coffee
without asking or knowing about the one who is giving this cup of coffee to
him he only looked at the wall, placed an order for himself, enjoyed his
coffee and left.

When we analyze this story, along with the other characters, we need to
remember the role played by the wall that reflects the generosity and care
of the dwellers of this town.
What a way to show compassion and maintain human dignity for all
"

When will the PAP treat poor and aged Singaporeans with dignity instead of humiliation?

Dear KohLianTye,

Thank you for speaking out so well...

Yes, Singaporeans need to bring the pap to its knees.

I am looking forward to the next GE..
