The biggest culprit in the destruction of social cohesion has been the PAP's divide and rule policy.
The Indian turned Malay President, SAP schools, SINDA, the mass import of Hindi speaking Ah Nehs who consider Tamils to be inferior scum and the emboldenment of Pinoys who have turned once upmarket Orchard Road into a Manilla slum have all widened the chasm between the various ethnic groups.
Singapore was far more cohesive when all of us could speak Malay.

We do have social cohesion, we are much more tolerant with each other race, than our previous generations, bigotry deep in each one of us, that we can not erase. We can be educated to 'ignore' calling people, "cina babi", " keow tor", " kek leng gui", "chow hay" etc.. in which we are less inclined to do so these days unless provoked.
