North is a dead cold winter, the ducks will surely die and yet they fly north.

Just like those who jumped down from the World Trade Centre.....stay they will be burnt to death, jump down sure die but better to sure die quick then to be roasted sl...ow.....l....y.

Yea, it could be. Watch out to see whether fish, whales, sharks swim to shore and how the dogs and cow make quick movements and loud noise......they have the sixth sense.

It could be the BIG one!

Good for you in Edmonton, prices are good. Even in Toronto, spend half a million on a house and live like a king on the other half a million :)

Before choosing which Canadian City I wanted to move to, I did some research.

While Vancouver is always touted by people, on paper it is like another high cost of living city.

When I finally visited Vancouver in 2007, I disliked it a lot. Too many asians. Rude impatient behaviour.

Essentially, almost like another Singapore. What's the point moving from one Singapore to another "Singapore"?

Luckily Canada is so big so you can choose which city you want to live in not just one or two or three or four. :D:D

My wife who was a teacher in Singapore got this in her email.

http://www.educationcanada.com/international.phtml?fullad=80747

I was joking with her maybe she should apply.

What's wrong with Singapore ar? Why is there this OBSESSION that foreigners are always better than locals? Frankly I think that mentality is just so wrong. So very wrong.

And how come these teachers from overseas will get medical and DENTAL benefits ar? Singaporean teachers don't have leh. Just so glad that we no longer have to fear being sidelined as Singaporeans in Singapore anymore.

The last line is classic Singapore style.

it is a weird setup in sg, and it seems that there is a lack of support for local staffs. what are all these inverse-racists, if there is such term for it, that permeate thru the civil sector?

You are dead right. When we went into the Chinese resturant in Vancounver, alamat I see are those snob Chinese.....even in Calgary is almost the same.

In Edmonton, generally the Chinese here at least smile at each other. And Asians are still not that many. I rather have more whites....racist....yea ...to that extend. In any cities in the world, if there are many Asians it tend to be very competitive and many snobs.

Are the whites more relax? Well come to Edmonton to experience the difference. We will be visiting Toronto for the first time this Aug and my wife and I wil find out whether it is the same as in London, England where we lived for 4 years. If yes, then it is too crowded and has too many Asians, period....no good for our inner peace.

The worst thing that can happen is when the chinese discriminate against chinese.

And these chinese treat the ang moh good but treat the chinese like shit.

Even worse is when the pinoys discriminate against the chinese.

And it cannot be avoided because you need the services and these services are staffed by these racists chinese or pinoys having a payback time.

Avoid Vancouver if you don't want to meet these racist chinese and pinoys.

The 10 happiest countries:

1. Norway
2. Denmark
3. Finland
4. Australia
5. New Zealand
6. Sweden
7. Canada
8. Switzerland
9. Netherlands
10. United States

Australia at 4th place, then New Zealand, after that only Canada.

Norway still the best :)

The temperature in Toronto for the past 2 days has been about minus 19 C, but feels like minus 29 C, due to the arctic air. I do not mind if it is around minus 10C, but on Sunday morning, my fingers were numbed from shovelling snow, and I needed to go into the house to warm, before I completed shovelling snow on the walkway and the sidewalk.

It is strange. I expected Edmonton to be colder than places like Toronto. But so far the lowest temperature I have experienced is only -26 C. I guess with windchill it is -30 +C. Not too bad.

But most of the time the temperature is above -20 C.

Past 2 days has been above 0 C! In fact all the snow from last week has been melting over the weekend. Today has been +3 to +12 C!

There has been other winters, where Toronto was colder than Calgary and Edmonton.
If it is 3C, it will be balmy.
If it gets up to 12C, I will be wearing my shorts and T shirt.

Toronto is the place to go. Not the old Toronto city but what was part of Metro Toronto and which is now part of the megacity.
