Enough of "pay me more" politicians....
That Singapore has the highest paid politicians in the developed world epitomises what is wrong with Singapore structurally and socially.
Singapore has evolved into a ruling elite that controls be it govt linked companies or ministerial posts, these are assigned through an elitist system not meritocracy, leading to Singapore evolving into the most unequal society in the developed world. Today Singapore workers work the longest hours and face the most stress and struggle to make ends meet. The misallocation to benefit the few is leading to inefficiency throughout the economy.
We need to elect people who prioritise the interest of Singaporeans, not their own pay and interests. In parliament debates on ministerial pay....the elites spend 5hours to to justify why they have to be paid higher.... In a debate of wages of Singaporeans, they spend 5hrs arguing why ordinary singaporeans should not be paid higher and cannot have a living wage. In the end, they concluded that Singaporeans need more retraining.
The structural inefficiency and misallocation has led the govt to mask the underlying economic problems by importing cheap labor for growth, and making Singapore a haven for the rich to grow the private banking sector. Sinking even lower, casinos were built destroying many singaporean families.
To maintain all this, the elites control the news media and suppress opposition to their rule to perpetuate the benefits they gain from the system.
Elites without public transport experienece running public transport company... elites without financial sector experience given positions to manage money.... and so on. Even have elites without shipping experience managing our shipping company. ...managed it to the ground and sold at discount to NTA to foreigners leading to loss of local jobs. Yet their claim is Singaporeans more retraining when they are putting elites without proper experience in key positions and earning millions. It is easy to see the root cause of the problems in our economy.
