Budget 2014

Example of what a person who is unable to work gets under comcare in

From 1st April 2013, you may receive:

Cash assistance
To support daily living expenses. The amount of cash grant depends on the size of your household.

Additional assistance for children
To support a school-going child's out-of-pocket expenses, up to $150 per child per

Surely you jest.... Comcare.....

the pap already taxed you on your property. in addition, it levies you for each toilet bowl in ur home. and pap charges water borne fee, and GST on all these taxes too

It's still a lot cheaper than the council rates that I have to pay in NZ.

That is hardly a rebuttal. Comcare either exists as described or it doesn't. If the government is not taking care of the destitute and the sick, how does Singapore achieve the 4th highest life expectancy in the whole world which is even higher than the Nordic states?

Budget 2014 is a deep disappointment. CPF increase of 1% means:

1 more cheap funds for HC to gamble,
2 more medisave money for the pap to increase medical bill,
3 burden for employers
4 no immediate benefit to SG employees

Ho Ching and pap gain. Singporean employers and workers lose

Miss....see the way you put out...even if the govt change the direction to giving direct cash, you will argue either it is peanut/insufficient or if the cash payout is huge(which is unlikely), outright bribery for vote!

Lose-lose proposition since u are anti establishment as most are here ;)

..I will be interested to hear on alternate proposals from WP or SDP though....

Oi Siao Eh, the keyword here is up to. You need to be in the situation to know how hard and stringent they are when approving these so call grants.
Unlike budget for Defense, they give how much means how much. If they give $1Bn, you can expect the $1Bn to be fully given and utilised. In some cases, they are even willing to triple the budget. Example, YOG.
When it comes to grants and assistance, it is always up to certain amount. These amount will never be matched end of the day. Don't be hoodwinked by the figures given by them.

If the WP wins the next election and reworks the budget, it's still not going to change the lives of anyone. The poor will still be poor. The rich will still be rich. Services will still have to be paid for in some form or another. If medical services become completely free, then taxes are going to have to go up substantially. Someone has to pay unless money is printed to service the bills. If that happens, inflation sets in and the price of everything goes up.

Forget the government budget. You have to take charge of your own life and do your own budgeting. The biggest change has to come from within. No political party is going to hand you a "Life of Riley" on a platter. You have to do it for yourself.

Trust the PAP to concoct a mixture of different kinds of shit to present a beautiful cake to the masses. However it still tastes and smells like shit.

It is good to hear that the Singapore government is stringent and hard on those who wish to claim benefits.

In NZ they give away money willy-nilly and the beneficiaries use the money for drugs, alcohol and at the jackpot machines.

You are right about this. Wonder why nobody talks about the budget yesterday? People on the street are not talking about it. Every year we have budget, year after year life of people on the street remain the same. It means nothing to the ordinary people. I think they have finally realised it by now and have given up on these bullshits by the gabernment.

I wont have much to say if they are consistent when it comes to giving grants to companies. Many of these companies ended up employing Foreign Trashes instead of Locals. I m not talking about low income positions.

The hype and brouhaha over the impending PGP for those aged 65 and above gave Singaporeans the impression that finally......."here comes the long awaited rewards." Fuck it, talk about taking back their pound of flesh" and more than a pound.

It was a big let-down and an insult to all the pioneers. Even sadder for the older folks, those who drink and smoke will give back to the government more than they received, including higher cost of living after this annnouncement. Prices of goods and services will go up faster due to the increase in business cost. Akan datang a round of increase for ERP, COE, food, transport and etc.

It's the same the world over. In another post I described how every increase in the minimum wage resulted in inflationary pressures which negated any of the gains. Nothing any government does is going to make anyone comfortably well off if they aren't already there.

It's not just Singaporeans who complain about budgets. It's exactly the same in NZ and it was exactly the same in OZ when I lived there.

Any change in your financial standing has to come about from what you do for yourself. This applies to Singapore and everywhere else that I am aware of.

I just met a neighbour and he was so furious. he told me he switched off the TV at abt 4.15pm, mid-way through Tharman's speech.

You disagree with what I said in post#1?

http://sammyboy.com/showthread.php?...or-Abbetting-FTs-to-get-Employment-Passes-but

Tracy go to Threat above . Tell u right many employer just declare higher salary to pay less levy.
That why I said regardless the WP/Spass/EP all must pay same amount of levy same with the maid.
Some even employ maid make food in home to sell at stall.

the pap shuts its eyes on misuse of foreign manpower. a firm employs a PRC as an engineers but uses him as a painter. There are too many loopholes
