Breaking TODAY : PAP MPs show no respect in Singapore Parliament

The high absenteeism is fully understandable given the quality of the issues brought up by WP and SPP.
The PAP MPs have better things to do like serving the needs of their constituencies who voted for them. We voted for them to serve us, not waste time entertaining clowns with non issues with no proposals.
Had my MP wasted time in attending this parliamentary sitting, I would consider voting someone else come next election

If 3/4 of staff do not report for work and no impact felt in the company, that means the company is overstaffed. PM Lee should explain why such a situation is allowed to occur. Afterall the MPs are not paid peanuts, isn't this part of their duty to attend parliament?

If SAF or SPF personnels absents themselves without leave or good cause, charges are made against them and the matter is brought to the Court under the SAF and Police Force Act.

The SAF Court Martial Centre and the Civilian Courts mete out the neccessary punishment.

Similarly when an NSmen leaves the country without permission he too will be charged.

Just like the Singapore Armed Forces Act and the Police Force Act, we should also have the Singapore Parliament (Discpline Procedures) Act enacted whereby such erring, irresponsible and indisciplined MPs can be charged. These Act should also have provisions for meting out custodial sentences.

Lets be the first in the World to do so.

The PAP MPs have better things to do like serving the needs of their full-time jobs and their own pockets than those constituents who voted for them. We voted for them to serve us, not clowns who who fail to attend parliamentary sitting to vote on issues and proposals.

Had my MP wasted time in attending other matters than this parliamentary sitting, I would consider voting someone else come next election.

Or rather any contribution they make in parliament could make them a laughing stock by the new media. Better not be present. If you are there, you cannot just be staring silently at the Speaker of the House. But seriously speaking, has the PM lost full control of his team?

Wise words. You're one of the few here to engage brain before banging away on keyboard.

I've added to your reputation points.

You raised a very pertinent point. Lets do a little math. one quarter of 87 is 21.75. So we are talking of not more than 21 members. Minus the 6 WP MPs and you have 15 or less out of 81 PAP MPs.

Looks like the MP has indeed lose control of his party!

you think singapore is very big like united states where it's inconvenient for the senators and congressmen to frequently travel to and from their constituencies & D.C.

municipal issues - the MP has a town manager in charge. parliament issues are first priority.

You have to seek approval for non-attendance according to the law. Now if more than half are not around, it means that there is a failure on the part of the granting authority. It also shows that our MPs are too busy to attend to issues of national interest or that parliament is a farce which means matters of the people are a farce. To say that there are better things to do and still hold a session suggests a waste of national resources to preside on a wayang session. Singapore is known not to hold that many sessions as compared to other countries. So to hold sessions claimed to be a waste of time is non productive. If it is an important session, then no excuse to be away or the time scheduling is amateurish. Or it could show that MPs are holding too many portfolios to serve the people which is also bad.
Either way, this is not good. What for the Hansard to become available to verify the list. Unless this becomes so siasuay that they discontinue from public eye.

Nearly 3/4 of the seats vacant. All PAP MPs who were supposed to represent the people in parliament went on massive AWOL. Leaving only our beloved and hardworking WP MPs in the hearing..........

I admire people like MYfoot who has great respect for the country.

The vacant seats should be filled up by Sammyboy Forummers and patriots like Myfoot or Ihave2feet.

Right on cue, myo539 our resident PAP porlumpar dog rears its head again.

Are our MPs taking the job seriously? 75% MIA on first day of parliament session

"The Land Transport Authority of Singapore (Amendment) Bill was not passed yesterday as fewer than a quarter of members were present in the House at the end of the debate. Mr Lui is expected to address the LTA's role in last December's train disruptions in Parliament today." Today 10 July 2012

How can there be fewer than 25% of the MPs be present in our Parliament at the end of a debate? A Parliament is in session and so many of them were absent or left midway? Less than 25% means 3 out of 4 MPs are absent. How effective is such a debate? And the session is an important one as it is with regard to the SMRT breakdown last year. Is it not ironic that so much time, effort and money were spent in a COI and yet when the issues were discussed and debated in Parliament less than 1 in 4 of our MPs were not even there!

"The Boss" previously also packed his bags and left when squeaky voice Tin Tin stood to speak

Mr Lui is also not the most entertaining speaker

Re: Are our MPs taking the job seriously? 75% MIA on first day of parliament session

I think it safe to assume to all opposition MPs were present theirs were toughly fought for seats. That'd put PAP attendance at less than 20%.

Yeah they should do something like that, no show of 3/4 of the MPs is really disrespectful of Parliament, definitely not right and ought to be penalized.
