ha! one religion condemning another. what makes you think that yours is the true religion?
Nice post Roy, agree with points 3 and 4.
On your point 2 above, I don't think it's the same.
Take the example of a profit making company (which is actually what they are too, hahaha)
The founders who may also be the key management may be being investigated for corruption or misappropriation.
It doesn't mean that the company itself, other management or founders who are not involved, the employees or what the company is doing day-to-day is under investigation.
Of course in this case, there is some sensitivity involved, which led to TCH's blah blah blah (be glad he didn't ask u what u thought), but it wouldn't be right to say that there is a problem with the whole church, all the management and staff and the churchgoers and their activities.
Having said that, 2 points to add:
1. They are not pinning any legal fault on the churchgoers who have in some way perpetuated the con by getting more and more people to join. That's probably right, many of us find that silly and to some extent disgusting, but the most u can charge them with is probably for being ignorant or stupid.
2. There are probably some more who deserve to and will be charged, perhaps akan datang.
Kong Hee speaking in tongues.
He is truly filled and baptized by the Holy Spirit.
@Roy
1. CHC may not be a 'charity' per se, but the subsidiary organizations under its wing may be. Similar to Touch Community Services under Lawrence Khong's FCBC. Sometimes the line of separation is very blurred.
2. Teo Chee Hean opened his big mouth to reassure the rest of the Christian community (CHC and non-CHC) that the arrests were against individuals, rather than govt persecution of Christianity and its institutions (the PAP has had a tainted history of dealing with Christian 'Marxist conspirators'). Unfortunately for Baron Teo, as far as the CHC folks are concerned, Kong Hee is symbolically synonymous with CHC. If the scuffles at the courtroom were a foretaste of things to come, the govt can expect serious repercussions.
3. Smart people are quite smart at explaining away things they come to believe for non-smart reasons.
4. The rational mind of human beings has, ironically, made them more predisposed to religion than other animals. Unlike other animals, human beings will ponder on the three basic questions of life: origin (where do we come from?), purpose (what are we here for?) and destiny (where do we go after death?). Combined with uniquely human notions of ethics, morality, guilt, punishment/reward, religion is a uniquely human experience.
If you dig deep enough, FCBC and New Creation etc will have skeletons in their closet.
They're all prosperity gospel charismatic churches who preach that material wealth = godliness, and the more you give in tithes and offerings, the more you'll receive in financial blessings from God.
Its a global practice and it actually started with the Catholic Church and all religions have capitalised on it. There charity arm is set up to ostensibly do social and charitable work. That arm has charity status. Then they transfer all fund raising and profit making enterprise into this arm to enjoy reduce the tax burden. They also employ their members in this arm and this is where they draw their salaries. It has been abused all around the world. In the actual Church they are not salaried and consider themselves Church volunteers. Durai actually had the title "Hon Sec" of the NKF Board as he was not paid but he was employed as CEO of the Charitable arm and drew a salary.
Absolutely confident that 'loyal' sinkaporeans already planted in all such organisations in sinkapore will provide timely and useful feedback to the government to contain such tea-cup rebellions. CHC included.
Any news about New Creation ?
Closest we have to this case is that of Father Joachim Kang. Given the quatum and scale of the case, Kong Hee should be looking at 7 to 10 yrs. Do you think Sun Ho will stay faithful for such a long time?
---
SINGAPORE: His redemption is now complete. After his release from jail last year, and the end of his home detention scheme last month, Father Joachim Kang now has been restored fully to his duties as a priest.
The decision had been made last week by the head of the Catholic Church in Singapore, Archbishop Nicholas Chia, and revealed to churchgoers on Sunday in the church's fortnightly newsletter, Catholic News.
It carried a statement by the Archbishop to say that Father Kang would be offered a "meaningful ministry" so that his talents could be "used for the good of the Church".
Father Kang had been convicted in 2004 for embezzling S$5.1 million from St Teresa's Church in Kampong Bahru.
Last year, he was put on a home detention scheme, during which time he found work with the law firm of Colin Ng and Partners.
With the lifting of sanctions imposed by the Church, he will now be able to offer public masses, preach and "fulfil the other sacred functions of the priesthood", said Archbishop Chia.
"He has done time under the law and I'm most happy to welcome him home to the Catholic community. As Archbishop and shepherd, I rejoice with him and his family. With the love and support of the church community, I hope that he will embrace the future with confidence," said the Archbishop.
For now, Father Kang has been granted home leave to spend time with his family, especially his aged father.
By the way, just a stupid question......how did we get the figure 33,000?
If you give me a million bucks, I will not only talk in tongue but sing like MJ too.

[h=2]“I’m still okay with my son going for service at CHC – he’s grown up and it’s his choice, but I was worried when I found out you could make donations through credit card – he uses our supplementary card and I’m not comfortable with him donating to a church that I personally wish was more accountable.”
CHC found itself in the spotlight of late after its founder Kong Hee and four other members were charged on Wednesday for misusing up to S$50 million dollars of the church’s funds to further the music career of Ho Yeow Sun, the singer wife of Kong, a charge which he had strenuously denied.
