Breafdownn of NE MRT

Obviously they make lots of profit, so efficiency is not their priority:smile:

Toronto has had their MRT system longer since the 1960's & they run from 6am until 1.30am while in Spore the last train is in 11pm something. No complaints with service in Toronto.

The NE line is less than 10 years & thats considered very young. If they are experiencing breakdowns it is probably due to bad management/maintenance.

what happens when the 2 IRs come up ? how can this country promote nitelife & entertainment industry when the train drivers 11.30pm goodnite koon liao ... 11pm+ is considered very early ... ppl who work retail hours & theatre hours, by the time they tidy up & get off work is already abt 11pm ... always rushing like mad for the last train/bus ...

bad mgt & maintenance - considering what s'pore is today - with the authorities more concerned abt making money than serving its ppl - im not at all surprised ...

Interesting point. They would have to make some changes to that when the casinos are established.

Went to a better place, Alberta
Went to Edmonton, a really cool place.

Alberta is a nicer place, less crowded, cheaper, friendly place. Unfortunately I made the wrong choice to return to Spore

Kuan Yew - 'alberta ?! isnt that the sleepy backwaters of canada ? Singapore is the best country in the world with the best leaders, hurmph !'

Again, not true. The retail shops along Orchard Road mostly close at 8:30 post meridian. In the good times 7:30. Only the depatos and cafes close much later. By midnight the place is pretty much dead.

Rethink what you say.

retail shops closed at 8.30pm ... ? we're talking abt s'pore 'noe, not Medicine Hat, Alberta ...

maybe not the orchard rd boutiques, but staff of cafe, foodcourt, restaurants, cinema, theatre - not rich enuff to take cab home everyday, 'noe ... they knock off work around 11pm, and anyway the buses are still packed at 11pm ... shouldnt the public transport continue till 1am at least ? lets see what raymond lim will do when the IRs come up ... can never understand why train stations close so early in a supposedly bustling city ...

What makes me sick is some of these so called high up people are really taking this company as their father's company. .....

When Spore has so many PAP protected monopolies, I am not surprised by what you see. In the company I'm with, although not a GLC I have seen such behaviours from those who have come from GLCs.

Those from the GLCs are very political. Its not surprising that these people have problems working in the real corportate world.

An old chap once told me I am very political. Maybe I should have worked for a GLC like you guys suggested too.

If you have paid attention and have been taking MRT, you would know that actually the last train for some stations is not 11pm but past 12 midnight.

and by the time the IR is running, I m sure adjustments would be made to ensure the last train would be later or more night bus services would be introduce as well.

everyone like you complain about bad service and bad maintaince, but if i have turn the table around and get you to handle this, would you have done a better job?

Lets take the frequent complains that the peak hour MRT service is packed like sardine. So what did SMRT did to solve the problem? They had to introduce more trains. The result is, more trains on the tracks, resulting in slowering of the train speed, resulting in longer travel time. So now, with the situation at almost ONE TRAIN PER SATION DURING PEAK HOUR, how do we solve this problem?

Do you have a solution or would you just complain and complain and get nowhere?

Do you even live in Singapore?

most of the retail close at 9pm and the shopping centres for some closed doors around 11pm.

and now, we also have certain shopping that goes 24 hours and i m not talking about 7-11 or Cheers

and by midnight, most of the place aint dead as there could be people still hanging around.

Man, you sure know how to make yourself look stupid.

I think it takes more than being political

Working for the GLC is like working for the gov't , you have to hide behind the regulations to protect youself. So one must be willing to follow regulations rather than do a good job.

Must have a thick skin as you have to kiss alot of ass in your career. Many of which belong to people you dislike intensely.

Must know how to back stab your colleagues.

If you have the proper connections, you don't even have to be smart or political

If so many people are complaining then its obviously that there is a problem with the system. Why ask the users to solve the problem? Isn't that the role of the management ?

Maybe there are enough trains in the morning & afternoon, but I dispute your claim of more trains on track in the afternoon & evening. Fyi I take the NE line & I often have to switch trains because trains often terminate at angmo kio as they are taken out of service. I suggest you go to the angmo kio stations & observe the number of empty trains returning to the depot.

I've taken the trains in Canada, HK, Bangkok, Paris, London,.KL,..., & I have to say that Spore is not among the top. Spore has one of the slowest services. When you consider that so many in Spore have to rely on public transport, its shameful.

Good job. How good is that? It pays 5K more? More perks thrown in as well? Better chances of promotion?

Well, it's generally easier to climb the corporate ladder with your fellows than among white and other people, so I guess this factored into part of your reasoning as to why you chose to head back.

The next logical step for you in your situation is of course to go back. How is the Canadian economy, and is it very hard to get a job back there?

Didn't return to Spore for years & years, didn't realise the Spore reality. Funny thing was what many people asked me, why I returned to Spore

Didn't understand back then but I do now :(

I got a decent job & became "complacent" & didn't go back to Alberta. A common mistake that many returning Sporeans make. A friend who also returned also got trapped by a good job :(

You really realise how much better the escapees are when you see them again, holidaying in Spore. They are much happier & in better health. I might be better dollar wise but they are better off in health & the quality of life they have.

Its getting worse in Spore & I'm working on an exit strategy.

Sometimes its more about the work culture than the pay. My fellow colleagues were others who had also returned to Spore from the UK, TCanada & US. Alot of other real FTs from HK, UK, Malaysians, Taiwanese,..

Management structure was very flat & everyone was empowered to do their job. Minimal politics. It was a great place to work until the company re-organised & colleagues moved elsewhere :(

I took advantage of the companys employee stock purchase program & even bought shares in the open market  So financially I'm ok.

I'm planning to move out of Spore as it makes no sense to stay here anymore as I'm tired of the crowds & cost.

Canada is affected by the slowdown but people are still working. At least my friends are  Canada is a big place & there are more jobs ranging from dish washer to self employed available.

I don't know about the job situation but its obviously harder to emigrate during a recession. It doesn't hurt to give it a try. Spore is a dead end, even if you currently have a job in Spore, eventually you'll be old & redundant.

My plan is to emigrate as an investor. I haven't decided yet where I'll be going to Aust, Canada, LOS, Malaysia,....

If you have got your LI status and have figured a way not to lose it, you're better off working in Singapore. Save up the money you don't have to pay for taxes etc. After you retire then you migrate back and you will have much more money to buy cottages, yachts, speedboats etc to enjoy life. Then you can take advantage of the HIP.

Best of both worlds.

Remember when I first got into Edmonton & saw all that snow, I thought to myself what have I got myself into

Years latter when I had to returned to Spore, I was sad to leave Edmonton:(
It was the place that I had my accident & where the whole neighbourhood came out to help  When its winter & your car is stuck in the snow, people would volunteer to push the car, or if you forget to turn off the car lights someone would offer to give your battery a boost..... Lots of good memoeries of Edmonton :o

Why would you go an live in Edmonton? Most Asians go to Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal. Toronto seems to be the best balance IMHO.

Landed Immigrant unless you're already a citizen.

HIP = Provincial Health Insurance Plan - automatic for all citizens and landed immigrants.

Oh I see  I was wondering what HIP(High Investment Plan) had to do with Canada

I think OHIP(Ontario) or Alta Health(Alberta) would be more familiar acronyms.

They've changed the rules to make it easier to maintain ones immigrant status. Its now something like Austrailia.

Then you definitely want to be working in Singpaore rather than Canada unless you can get job which pays at least 50% more to make up for income tax (up to 50%) and the PST/GST (15%!!!!).
