Transport Minister: Boon Lay-Queenstown train services may not resume tomorrow; SMRT leaders apologise

In an Facebook post, Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat warned that normal train services along the East-West Line (EWL) between Boon Lay and Queenstown may not resume tomorrow following a major disruption today. SMRT Chairman Seah Moon Ming and GCEO Ngien Hoon Ping apologised to commuters, attributing the issue to an “unforeseen issue” involving a defective axle box on an old train, which caused derailment and damage to track equipment.

SINGAPORE – There will be no regular train services between Jurong East and Buona Vista on Sept 26, marking a second day of disruptions for commuters on the East-West Line (EWL).
This comes after a power fault halted normal passenger service between Boon Lay and Queenstown stations for more than half a day on Sept 25.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in a statement late on Sept 25 that engineers from LTA and train operator SMRT started recovery works in the afternoon, and will continue into the night.

“However, as the damage to the tracks is extensive, more time is required to do the necessary repairs and replacements,” the authority said.
Both SMRT and LTA would check all first-generation Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) trains overnight, before they are put into service, LTA added.
A defective mechanical component of a first-generation KHI train contributed to the power fault on Sept 25.

Hello to all our readers, Yahoo Singapore will be bringing you live news updates today.
As the East-West Line (EWL) train disruption stretches into its second day, commuters in Singapore face ongoing transport
challenges.

With services still suspended between Jurong East and Buona Vista due to a traction power fault, the situation remains fluid.

The disruption began Wednesday (25 Sept) morning, stranding 850 passengers after a power fault affected multiple stations. SMRT has introduced shuttle bus services to assist affected commuters, though frustrations regarding crowd management persist.

The LTA has confirmed ongoing repairs and safety checks on affected trains. With this incident following several other disruptions, questions about the reliability of Singapore's public transport system are being raised. More on the second day of SMRT's EWL disruption here.

For a reality check, before u sign on dotted line

I suggest all passengers to bid for a COE before they are eligible to take a train ride for 10 years. Then SMRT has more money to spend on maintenance and reduce the over crowded train

SINGAPORE: Commuters in Singapore are bracing themselves for transport delays following a major disruption on a main MRT line.
Regular train services will not be available on the East-West Line between Boon Lay and Queenstown MRT stations, in both directions, for at least the rest of Wednesday (Sep 25).
Shuttle train services will ply some stations, but there will be no service between Jurong East and Buona Vista stations.
This comes after an incident on Wednesday morning where an eastbound train developed a fault near Clementi station at about 9am.
Ticket price must be tied to the passenger weight and space occupied for a more robust public tranaport price model
