Is my understanding correct? Can somebody clarify? Cos I can see poor people suffering a lot, can someone clarify, I hope I am wrong here.

"Previously the CDCs provided an option for residents to donate their CDC Vouchers 2021 and 2022. Similarly, can I donate my 2023 vouchers for a good cause?

- The option to donate the CDC Vouchers 2023 is currently not available. As this Scheme is designed to help Singaporean households in cushioning the impact of the Goods and Service Tax increase and support participating heartland merchants and hawkers, we encourage you to spend your CDC Vouchers.

This is like sprinkling a little lubricant prior to being anally raped. Remember to be grateful, daft Sinkies.

Irrelevant comment.

This thread refers to encouraging rich people to donate what they don't need, as well as government accountability to the public.

Government has to account for the value of unclaimed GST vouchers. It cannot just simply enter into a slush fund.

Charities are also in need of much money in view of unprecedented economic challenges the modern era is facing, and should be encouraged to actively raise funds for their causes, of which the CDC vouchers are a great option.

The failure of government to publicly account for the unused CDC vouchers in as explicit a manner as they refuse to provide options for voucher donations, reeks of a leadership neglecting it's duty towards the prudent use of resources and uplifting the poor. It implies a leadership running roughshod and unconcerned about the plight of poor people, leaders operating in silos and concerned only about their own ministries agenda and not solving national issues as a whole but practicing turf wars with much resource wastage as a result.

Singapore has a dim future if these inter ministry turf wars continue.

What could be the reason for this change? Not like if u donate, the cdc vouchers won't be used by others?
Think u mean don't donate, the vouchers are wasted etc.
- There is always the suspicion of corruption, unaccountability, misuse etc, especially in the context of public policy regression, which in this case, refers to the past availability of the option to DONATE the CDC vouchers to charity, but in the latest tranche, there is none. This is a disturbing and paradoxical regression, especially when the needs of charities previously receiving donated CDC vouchers are now having their lifelines being cut now; all in the name of promoting heartland businesses, ostensibly by forcing citizens to spend, if not squander printed monies, just to artificially keep these unprofitable businesses on life support.

Why are charities the sacrificial sheep in this project?

I suspect it's due to selfishness of the CDC department or minister in charge, to only benifit the narrow interest of his own ministry and his own portfolio, of which uplift of poor is probably a very distant concern.

He is only concerned about the profitability/survival of heartland shops in this harsh economic climate.

He is missing the woods for the trees and the Singapore cabinet is not working together.

Ministers work at odds with each other, not for the benifit of the whole, but just to puff up their individual portfolios.

Charity is sacrificed and forgotten. We are solving an immediate problem by creating an even bigger one to be dealt with by other people.

IMHO, removing the charity option for the use of CDC vouchers is a mistake of monumental proportions and one we will all regret for a long while.

are you like slightly crazy?

why not feedback the same to your MP
In GRC system, MP is spokesman for ministers, cos minister is his parliament seat sponsor.

MP is like cannon fodder, if sacked by minister, no by-election is necessary to ensure citizen representation, the other mouthpieces toe the line closer, to avoid upsetting the minister and repercussions of dismissal without recourse (I.e. no by-election opportunity at all).

MP listens to minister and his job is brainwash citizens or keep opposition quiet.

There are too few opposition, so they also cannot take up this question.

In a GRC land of self pwn citizens, everyone suffers.

sorry , your english very deep :D

is it you mean there are misuse of unused

cdc vouchers by the govt ??

and is it also u meant , donations of cdc vouchers to who the receipents we also are kept in the dark ? :D

Actually if they allow CDC voucher transfers (donate), then scammers will come to scam people of their vouchers
The 2021, 2022 CDC vouchers donation scheme only applies to government registered charities.

The government managed the cash transfers, so there is no risk of scammers rigging the system, unless the government is cahoots with scammers or is a scammer itself.

" When can I donate my household's CDC Vouchers 2021 and 2022?
From 20 December 2022 until 31 January 2023, residents will be able to pledge their donation of the balance CDC Vouchers 2020 and 2021 to a preferred charity.
https://vouchers.cdc.gov.sg/donate/...on declaration,2023 to pledge their donation.

I am saying that by determined failure to implement the donation to charities option, the government is making a very grave mistake, by sacrificing charities, just to save heartland businesses and supermarkets.

Corruption in government is promoted in this process, since firstly, the disparity between rich and poor will be aggravated as the charities are being deprived of funds when they most need it, given the challenging economic climate ahead.

The rich have the most to gain as they are business owners and shareholders and citizens squandering their money (deceived by the government that charities don't need more money, thus the government policy to do away with the donation of CDC vouchers to charities option), will result in all sorts of unnecessary and inappropriate purchases, which satisfies the profit reports of businesses, but does nothing to uplift the poor, whose supporting charities the government has since bankrupt, by pulling away a lifeline when the charities most need it.

The result of this national subsidy vouchers program is that the wealth disparity will only get even larger, resulting in a leadership and public servants only more distant from ground realities and more willing to promulgate roughshod and sociopathic policies like pulling lifelines from charities when they most need it, just because the whimsical flavour of the month is the promotion of heartland shops and supermarkets profit reports.

History has it that big government is dangerous and the government's indeterminate response about the charitable use of unclaimed CDC vouchers is not reassuring.

The consequence of this method of authoritarian public policy making is a regression of the nation towards anarchy, where the social compact is destroyed and a banana republic is the natural outcome.

just buy food with it and donate llor
Most people will not have experience nor time to do it and will probably just squander away the vouchers if they don't trust the government much.
Inappropriate food, not to the medical / cultural needs of recepients is often wasted.
This is national resources foolishly wasted on a grand scale.

The government will also have much more funds to manage and it is unknown if the government is wise/ honest enough to do so, more corruption in government may well result, especially in an authoritarian and hierarchical system, where might is right is the law of the land.

As a compromise to not having the CDC vouchers donation option, the government must make it crystal clear the charity department appointed to administer the funds, so that accountability is expected and citizens have confidence to leave what is unneeded unconsumed, rather than squander the funds, at the expense of the poor, which is poor governance and only fuels further social degradation and encouragement for rampant corruption to entrench itself in such a society later.

January 2023 Tranche is more targetted and impactful to spur consumer spending to give businesses a boost.

the coming tranches i think will include Charities ...

Or they could have just credited the money directly into the people's bank accounts. It's not hard.

This bullshit intermediary system was inserted to create jobs for cronies (IT department) and to score some KPI points for accomplishing certain 'smart nation' (phones and QR codes) political objectives. That's all.

What people do with their money is none of the govt's business. There is no need to tether the voucher system with purchase of groceries. A GST hike affects ALL goods and services, not just some crappy groceries.

GST increase: anal rape.

$300: lubricant to make the initial entry easier.

At the end of the day, you're still a rape victim.

It's simply LUDICROUS that a billionaire will get the same amount of govt financial assistance as a peasant as as poor as a church mouse.
If they can do it for the GST voucher, why not for the CDC?
Under the son , there is a very clear pattern of administrative convenience being a main consideration in all policies, not the effect on individual's welfare , and we are talking about one of the smallest and least populated country in the world.
Imagine if this bunch were to run a country like USA or Russia, how much cock up and suffering will be created and not to mention how much they will pay themselves .

The use of CDC vouchers at supermarkets will only make the queues longer. :frown:
