The response from the operator really takes the cake:

"Our charges may appear to be high as they are not subsidised. In our view, the charges are most reasonable. Otrher operators may be cheaper as they have low overheads and low expenses."

Their explanation is an indictment of Singapore Inc:

- Businesses have come to see subsidies by govt as a right, for running a business - think of all the various schemes offering subsidies, including all the Workfare nonense.

- If businesses are inefficient or not competitive, customers should pay for their incompetence.

It is ironical that while the PAP has been most vigilant in setting up a web of schemes which ensure that citizens do not game the system, businesses have been fed the opium of subsidies.

The Changi Motor Sports Hub died a natural death because the govt did not agree to provide subsidies, which was proposed in the tender submissions.
