Sunday, 19 May 2013, a day many residents in Kaki Bukit division, Aljunied were looking forward to. Tickets for this tour were sold out soon after they were released for sale. In all, around 320 residents participated in the One Day Family Tour. There were a total of eight buses that were catered to bring the residents round the various sites on the itinerary.

Organised and led by volunteers from the Aljunied Constituency Committee, the journey started off with a visit to the Kranji Countryside. Residents had the chance to see how high-technology farms in Singapore grow crops such as wheatgrass, cactus and aloe vera during the tour of Kin Yan Agrotech. At the next stop on the itinerary, residents were treated to ‘fish spa’ and ‘longkang fishing’ at discounted prices. These activities provided precious opportunities for families and friends to come together. Following the tour of the Kranji Countryside, residents proceeded by bus to Marina Barrage for lunch. Residents also picked up important lessons on how Singapore builds up and ensure a sustainable water supply for the island.

After lunch, residents enjoyed a stroll around the themed gardens of the Gardens by the Bay and learnt how plants are linked to Singapore’s culture. The last stop on the itinerary was Kampong Glam, where residents had the opportunity to understand and appreciate Malay culture through visits to the Malay Heritage Centre, the Sultan Mosque and the Kampong Glam Heritage Trail. Throughout the journey, MP Muhamad Faisal took the initiative to go onboard each of the eight buses to interact with the residents.

Despite the hot and humid weather throughout the day, the residents remained upbeat and enjoyed the tour. In fact, many of them were already planning for the next bus tour that Kaki Bukit division will be organising in July – A One Day Tour to Malaysia. Buses brought the residents back to Block 550, Bedok North Avenue 1 at 5pm as scheduled. It was a day well spent with MP Muhamad Faisal and residents left with smiles all over.
