A Singaporean's guide to living in Thailand

OK, here's some review for CANTON house at Central Festival 6th floor. Have posted pics of uneaten food. This is the closest Cantonese food you can get in Sin City. Price is quite cheap and place is clean. Only thing is there are quite a number of dishes from the menu they don't serve when near the closing hours. You can also get good Dim Sum here. Think the whole dinner was around THB 1200. Have to deduct THB 200 from the bill because of the 2 bottles of Heineken beer.

Cantonese food is quite easy to find in Bangkok and south. Dimsum and wanton mee (basic and classic Cantonese fares) are quite popular around. Ratna is also a Thai version of Cantonese Horfun. Surprisingly, there're almost no Thai Cantonese I see in Thailand, most of Thai Chinese I see are Thai Teochew.

Hi guys, my initial plan after leaving SF was to head for Muir Woods then directly to Napa however a friend recommended me to head further north to Calistoga and then so the Silverado Trial down to Napa. I did it and thanks to him the Silverado Trial is really beautiful.

Googled for best restaurant in Napa and the Cole's Chop House popped up. It's really great I must say the steak was really good we ordered a fillet and a lamb rack.

One of the small sois in Sin City. Usually will avoid if possible when driving but no problem when riding. Car was scratched by passing bike around this area. :( One good thing about these small sois is it is good when the main roads and streets are having traffic jams.

I've passed by one or another Canton House branch many times and always wondered about the food. The decor is very spartan. Thanks for the review.

Eek mai nan ko ja kap pai muang thai - maybe I'll try it then.

Your car's scratch hor, depends on how deep. If scratched deep to base layer then must repaint hor - otherwise rust will set in and once that happens, it will spread. Especially near salty climes. At least touch up (this is what I'd do) the scratch if you don't repaint. Leaw te khun.
Hehehe. Didn't know Canton House has branches in BKK. Thought this is their only restaurant in LOS. I recommend the Jelly Fish salad, ask for the HK style instead of LOS.

Scratch is not deep but still heart pain cos' just had a paint job slightly a month ago when I also added the skirting, spoiler and the blue leds. Think will just wait awhile. Funny thing is I am not so heart pain when it comes to my new vios (already got quite a few scratchers on the bumpers). A lot of feeling for this older civic as this is my first car in LOS.

Can always contact Bro GoldenDragon for any paint job assignments.

But seriously, how much does a paint job cost ?
OK, the paint job for everything is about THB 20K. Think this one no need to do everything, just the body. But think will wait a few weeks to see if got any more scratches. :D

Also, this month end, plan to install LPG unit on the vios.

Price is reasonable indeed. Sounds like a good place to try if go to Pattaya, I haven't been to Thailand for quite a few years actually.

In the midst of doing a comparison between prices of Merc and Lexus.

Maybe Joety and CBFC can help shed some light.

It's between entry level C180 and IS250. In ROC, the prices are similar in the range of 1.82 million TWD. But it appears that C180 commands a much higher price in the used car market.

What is the equivalent in Thailand ? Or Singapore for that matter ?

Morning guys,

Was in Chonburi the whole day yesterday.

Some bad news, Civic left side got a 5-6 inch scratch from a passing motorcycle taxi while I was in a small soi. KNN, the new paint job was about a month old nia. Think will not go for a new paint job soon but will buy some MUGEN and bullet hole stickers to cover the scratch.

Think today will be another zho bo lan day.

Bro, sorry to hear about the scratch.

But instead of the MUGEN stickers, can check this out> Matt Black Body Wrap, IMO +10 to beng factor. :D

No regrets at all. Every bite into the flesh you can really taste the sea.

Fish House has been around for 18 years still own and run by the same Scicilian Japanese family.

Yes Jlokta it's very yummy the oysters fresh from the sea just in front from the restaurant.

KYP, please see prices as listed.

Mercedes C200 price - 2.15 to 3.25 (million baht)

Lexus IS250 price - 2.99 to 3.84 (million baht)

KYP I have to tell you the truth, I love Lexus but the way they price it in Thailand it is rediculous and more expensive that Singapore by like 20% this is very ridiculous. I am very lucky to have bought the RX270 new model at 3.7mil but they just had a facelift and it now costs over 4mil. Really fucked up pricing I have to say. Can you imagine their new GS250 cost between 4.6 to 5.1 million? I would rather pay 4.6mil for a E300 or 4.3mil for a 528iSport. Lexus pricing is totally ridiculous. Anyway don't expect to see many of these on the road as they are simply pricing themselves out.

A 740Li costs only 9mil and S350 only 8mil. Fucking LS460L starts at 11mil. Who are they kidding?

I could not PM you the price list as there is no attach file option.

I have checked Sg's site - Lexus IS250 is more expensive than C-180. But to be frank, the engine capacity is different. Despite that, C180 is still a tad more expensive than IS250 in ROC. It appears to me that if you're in ROC, it's definitely value for money to get a Lexus. A 2007 IS 250 model costs about 800,000 TWD, which is about SGD34,000. Not a bad deal at all !

I always go for Lexus over continentals due to refinement and reliability. I have experienced it myself and heard too much from continental owners. However at the end of the day if you are paying for a car that is more expensive than in Singapore I think you really got to think about it.

Like I said I am lucky to have gotten the RX for my wife at a good price and I guess this is the last Lexus I'm going to have unless I move out of Thailand.

This is Lexus price in Indonesia:

LS460L - 7.3mil (c/w 11mil in Thailand)
GS350 - 3.7mil (c/w 6.7 in Thailand)
RX270 - 3.2mil (c/w 3.7 that I bought)

knn I may get one when I start working there next half year.
