A Singaporean's guide to living in Thailand

You're right about the Laotian influence. But generally, Isaan people still consider themselves proud Thais because I suspect they think being Thais is a step up from being Laotian.

1. There has never been an issue with Isaan's nationality as Thais, carrying Thai identity cards and Thai passports, the reasons are obvious, economically both countries are a world of difference. And therefore yes Thais are generally perceived "a step up" from Laos.

2. The word "Isaan" is being used on them only in the early 20th century in a program known as Thaification to simply make them more Thai and this is emphasised in 1950s onwards due to communism.

3. Say what one like Isaan people today use the words on themselves Lao more so ethnically than nationally so the saying Ahan (food) Lao, Pasar (language) Lao, Khun (people) Lao etc etc

Froggy, for a salesman, you sure taste the high life...

My Thai boss had made in-depth evaluation on my job scope with 3rd party years ago and it showed that I will require regular therapy to achieve the business objectives for screws and silicone.

2 years ago the new FC recommended to remove my therapy sessions and all hell broke loose. Ended Thai boss fired the FC and reinstated my therapy. I really didn’t want this to happen but it’s a fact. What to do?

Restored end of Pattaya beach attracting holidaymakers

The formerly badly eroded northern end of Pattaya beach in Chon Buri has been widened with extra sand
shipped in from Koh Rang Kwian, a non-tourist island off the coast near Koh Larn.

CHON BURI: Pattaya beach is attracting more people since being widened by a sandfill extension built at the northern end.
The extension has widened the beach there to its original 35 metres.

The Marine Department hired a contractor to improve the landscape and extend the beach under a beach "nourishment" scheme after a survey highlighted major erosion along the 2.7km Pattaya beach, from the northern end to the southern.
So far, the beach has been expanded with the addition of extra sand along a distance of more than 400 metres, starting from the northern end, both restoring and widening it.

More holidaymakers can be seen each day enjoying the restored strip, boosting the tourist atmosphere of the resort town.
The beach's restoration was originally scheduled to begin in late September 2016 and be completed in March 2017. However, in February the director of the 6th Marine Region Office in Pattaya, Ekkarat Khanthano, announced the 429-million-baht beach restoration scheme was still on hold because of the scarcity of sources of new sand.

This was finally solved by taking sand from Koh Rang Kwian, an island about 10km from nearby Koh Larn. It has the same kind of sand as Pattaya and is not a tourist island. About 360,000 cubic metres of sand are required for the 2.8km project, which ranges from the Dusit Thani Hotel in North Pattaya to Walking Street at the southern end of the city.

Overall, it is planned to increase the beach width to 50 metres, and is aimed at combating natural erosion, Mr Ekkarat said. Without restoration and constant maintenance Pattaya beach was at risk of disappearing, he added. Pattaya is one of 10 beaches likely to be lost within a decade unless drastic measures are taken to prevent chronic erosion, according to an official survey in 2016.

Some sections of the sandy beachfront have receded to only 2-3 metres, compared with 35 metres in the past.
Thailand has 23 seaside provinces with a coastline stretching 2,000km along the Gulf of Thailand and 1,000km along the Andaman Sea.
Of this total, some 670km of shoreline is being eroded away at an average 5 metres a year, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

I just had lunch, a bowl of very delicious fishball noodle. Really like it. $4 a bowl. Worth it as the soup doesn't contain MSG yet tasty and the fishball is 100% fish meat without flour. Rare to get this type of food these days even in Thailand and Singapore

The new terminal for public passenger vans operating on interprovincial routes opened in Bangkok on Wednesday.

All van services at Mor Chit bus terminal had been moved to the new facility on Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road under the Si Rat expressway, Land Transport Department director-general Sanit Promwong said.

The new terminal, built for exclusive use by public vans, is across the road from the Mor Chit bus terminal.
The 30-rai complex can handle up to 2,000 passengers at a time, leaving on all routes.
Transport Co allows public vans to operate to destinations within 300 kilometres. Longer routes are reserved for buses.
