$60 per month works out to $15 per weekend. Excluding the 3 month off-season, it is $720 for 9 months, or $20 per weekend. For most folks, they are probably only going to watch their favourite teams, or they only have time to watch one match and that is their favourite team. So that is $20 per match.

StarHub has not announced its pricing yet, but assume that it will be about the same price.

What is the alternative to forking $20 per match? Certainly neighbourhood coffeeshops but they are gonna be crowded. Some pubs and restaurants screen soccer matches. The cost of a meal or drink plus transport (bus, train or petrol and car parking charges) will add up to more than $20 although one can argue that there is good value: food plus drink plus atmosphere.

What are your preferred alternatives to paying $60 per month to SingTel?

you cannot blame EPL to jack up the price, the GDP of singapore is very very high, they use that to calculate the price to sell to singapore.

as a consumer, you can vote with your feet and not paying for it.

use online streaming from china. very laggy though, better not watch it at all.

It will be the same price for those who watch via Starhub. The money goes to Singtel. Cross carriage means SH subscribers don't have to use another box to watch. Singtel loses subscribers but gets the money.

Watch online streams. They are easy to find, just do a simple Google search. Great quality, free and you do not need to install anything.

Oh, and the studio punditry is much better than any local Sinkie crap that's churned out.

Even the half time ads are much better.

This nonsense came about when MICA and the MDA were under that navy scholar-nerd Lui Tuck Yew.

Now he's in charge of public transport. Dear Lord, help us all.

What Singtel is trying to do with the pricing, is to lure customers from starhub who may be currently watching BPL standalone on mio TV and watching other cable tv channels on starhub.

If these customers decide to give up their mio TV and watch BPL on starhub, they will have to pay the standalone BPL cost + whatever starhub is charging them for their other cable channels. By offering packages on their mio TV cable channels at only a slightly higher cost than the cost of standalone BPL, Singtel is hoping many customers will give up their starhub box and switch to singtel completely. Then there will be those who are only watching BPL on singtel, who may not mind paying a little more to get more channels on mio TV.

For new customers who didn't used to watch BPL on cable tv, there is no difference to singtel, because they will be charged the same fee whether they use singtel or starhub box. They probably estimate there won't be many of these anyway.

What they have probably decided to ignore or forgo, is those who will get so fed up with them and forget about watching BPL on tv totally. They may not have anticipated how many of these there will be.
