Agree. TJS has the profile of civil servant, an administrator, corporate operative and businessman. Politics is a whole different field. He will have to learn the hard way. He will also have to realise that he cannot be an anchor up front as he does not have the style that is suited for politics unless he goes for training.

Hi Locke,

Jee Say is no politician nor an outstanding orator, in fact he far from being a good orator. As someone with such good credentials he can be an asset but as a front man I doubt he has the ability to capture his audience's attention.

As for Nicole, she will be good for any party if they wish to have her. It is up to her to know what is best for herself if she has any ambitions to move further afield. If she is unaware that she is being headhunted, then she is naive which I sincerely think she is not. She is head and shoulders above a lot of the would be politicians with the added advantage of her age. 5 years down the road she will be a force to be reckon with and I hope she knows that too. As long as she keeps her nose clean and not get her reputation tarnished, plays her cards right, she stands a very good chance to get into parliament after the next elections. There are a lot of enemies I am sure who will be only too happy to see her fall and we are talking about powerful enemies.

I am surprised as well as that is not the convention. By law there is no restrictions as meet the people session is not a statutory requirement. PAP candidates that lost have carried on grassroots work.

How come Rin Tin Tin already start doing MP meet the people session so fast? I thought they must be sworn in first?

Agree with all your points. The bright side is that there many possibilities and opportunities and hopefully it gels into one manageable piece with 2 or 3 opposition parties with structure and an decent operating rhythm. Just have to follow WP's operating formula but have one's own ideology that is acceptable to the electorate.

Folks like Jee Say do not realise the pain in managing a political party. This elections is a huge learning curve.

I do like the part of WP taking in SPP and therefore reserving the Bishan-TP and more importantly the PP turf which is hanging by a thread. If the merger happens with Chiam given an honorary role, the PAP will be doomed. No amount of pork barreling is going to save them. As you correctly pointed out WKS would be toast and Mt E will see the return of a surgeon to practice.

a SPP-WP marriage will be an unhappy one at best, SPP and WP's ideologies are far too different or they would had done so 20 years ago instead of Chiam having to form SDA with a bunch of jokers. That said, the political landscape is different today and tomorrow, how it will turn out will be interesting to watch. This can only work if Chiam or Low can both create a common consensus within their own party cadres.

Bro, SPP as a party is close to death. It has been cloaked around Chiam and no one else. It is not merger of equals nor an actual merger. Chiam and SPP have 2 things to offer (1) first bite at PP and Bishan-TPP when the next round of horse-trading takes place in 2016 and they are now worth their weight in gold for any opposition parties. This is the bait that will draw WP and will be attractive in putting their next stage of lego bricks together. The fact that it is close to Aljunied is not lost on us and certainly them. (2) Chiam's legacy which is very powerful and second only to WP.

WP gets the stomping ground rights and Chiam and SPP get on the right side of history for the next assault. Chiam will also help correct the egregious matter of failing to have a proper succession plan.

The best part is that SPP has extracted itself out of SDA and that certainly must be a bonus. This scenario is similar to UOB taking over OUB and making the founder of OUB the founding chairman of both entities but it was essentially a UOB venture as old man was close to death. DBS offer was spurned.

The only problem is Yip and some elements of the CEC. They are not exactly fit for purpose and would have to realise that and certainly can help contribute behind the scenes. Having seen Benjamin Pwee at rallies, he would fall nicely within WP fold without even a burp as his command of English and Mandarin would be great.

In essence a win for both parties.

A decent reply deserves another. :smile:

The primary purpose behind that clause is to stop someone refusing to take the oath and still wanting to rave and rant in parliament.

I cannot agree nor disagree. This may probably be one of a few possible reasons that made the provision necessary. Anyway, I think I have read that the constitution disallows anyone in the parliament without having taken the oath first.

Cheers... :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
