4th June: My Bad Day And Hopefully A Brand New Start

Re: How Can You Believe In That ?

ah some sensible post at last.

Congrats, this is the best thing that can happen to you.

As long as you don't do anything that requires decent command of English - your grammar sucks - you will be fine

I've always urged people to start their own business and not be a fucking tar kong zai and complain no end about the boss, the colleagues and the government

Tell u the truth. Many customer said will support U this and that if u set up company. But when u set up depend on your relationship not many willing to change vendor/contractor/supplier even u offer cheaper price.
So hope u calculate into this base on my experience. U need to find new customer because only small portion will jump over.

Hi brother, I'm lucky that my trade does not depend on existing customers. In fact, it is brand new customers everyday. But this is the tricky part. The telesales must be able to find these new customers. My industry is slightly different from others.

how true. probably 20% - 30% will actually follow you. the rest are just bullshitter hoping you don't screw up their business before you quit. :D

my humble advise to bro raider is to pay people to do all the work that you are not familiar with, focus on your core strength, otherwise you will tire out before you even started the fight. also you will have more time for your other activities. :D

get a corporate secretarial firm to do the registration and setup paperwork for you.

Thanks brother. I had registered the sole proprietorship one year ago in preparation for this day. Just that it came sooner than I expected and sooner than I was prepared for it. Now it's just office, phone line and I can start.

Re: How Can You Believe In That ?

Many thanks to those brothers who send their well wishes. I'm on iPhone now and cannot reply everyone. But I appreciate the well wishes and advices. Thank you. On the way to view office now. It's a fully fitted unit which means I don't have to spend money renovating or buy furniture. Comes with Internet as well.

Bro, those startup cost and procedure aside.

Before you start your own business, most important is to consolidate your customers, suppliers and contact base.

All the best.

"Advice" is a non countable noun; you do not add an "s" to make it plural.

"Advice" is like "Rice". You say... "Please pass me the Rice." You don't say "Please pass me the rices" because "Rice", like "advice", is a non countable noun.

There are many other examples. To test your knowledge of non countable nouns, go to English Language Quiz - Countable or Non-countable Nouns (I-TESL-J) and take the test.

Tio brother Raiders, you will stand to loose if you do not heed Sam's advise!!

Re: How Can You Believe In That ?

Good luck on your new venture.

My only advice is to keep your cost low and spend a lot of your time managing your cashflow. In small business environment, cashflow is the key problem faced. For example, if you buy on cash terms and customer takes 30 days to pay, you already need 1 month of additional cashflow; and that is on very optimistic assumption of 30 aging.

In addition, with regard to your question on GST, ask yourself how much do you need to buy and if those you are buying from GST registered or not. For example, if you are buying 5k a month on services/goods, you are losing 7% in margins or 4.2k. It grows with time. Weigh this with the cost involved in the additional accounting.

This reminds me of "flight lice paralyse". Not sure whether that was from ... cartoon ? Newspaper ?

Thanks brother. If this business never take off, I will seriously consider :D

So far so good. As a very small business, the setup is not that complicated and I do not need special licenses. I should be able to start operation on next Monday.

Striking out on your own is both exciting and frightening at the same time. I wish you every success in your business venture.

Thanks brother. Just a small startup. Everything starts from small. Its the first step that is the most difficult.

Bro, good luck with your new business.

As the old folks used to say: 万事起头难.

The good thing is running your own business, the reward is equivalent to the effort put in.

Bro, do you have non-compete clause on you're employment contract?

is your ex-employer likely to find fault especially if you do well and take his customers?

I am particularly concerned that you have registered the business one year ago. You ex-employer may accused you of running a rival biz while still being employed by him. It is better to start a new biz since sole proprietorship is very easy to do.

The cock up company set up another company under a different name and transferred me over to take charge. They forgot to give me a new contract under the new company :D

Happy today. I closed my first sales under my new company. A neat $700 profit for an hour work :)

I have never questioned my ability to do sales. I'm just worried my telesales can't get enough appointments for me. My strike rate is for every 10 companies, I can close sales in at least half of them.
