One question I would like to ask, is it common anywhere in the world, where traffic turning say right or left at the same time, with on coming traffic; like the one in the video & the diagram, which we see everyday in Singapore?

I noticed crossing the same type of traffic lights junction in Taipei...it doesn't. That is the question I am asking.

It is sad that such a young life cut short & the parents that lost their only child, our hearts go out to them....can we blame the PAP for this too?

Traffic lights can be programmed to whatever ensures the max number of cars through per cycle. Each junction is different. No matter how the light sequence is programmed it still requires that drivers know the road rules and follow them.

KNN it has been discussed by JLB $8 cow in parliament not long ago about right turning vehicle and pedestrian crossing but not the straight vehicle type ..KNN say only nothing done.

SINGAPORE - A 23-year-old woman died from her injuries after the car she was travelling in collided with an SMRT bus at a traffic junction in Bukit Timah early Sunday (April 22).

Two others in the black Mercedes, including the 24-year-old woman driver, were injured. The Straits Times understands that both are still warded in hospital.

The police told ST they were alerted to an accident involving a bus and a car at the junction of Jalan Anak Bukit and Jalan Jurong Kechil at about 1am.

"The car driver, a 24-year-old woman, and her passenger, a 26-year-old man, were conscious when taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital," police said.

They added that a 23-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the same vehicle, was unconscious when taken to the National University Hospital, where she subsequently succumbed to her injuries.

ST understands that the male passenger was in the front passenger seat, while the deceased was seated in the rear.



The accident was believed to have happened when the black Mercedes was making a right turn from Jalan Anak Bukit to enter the Pan-Island Expressway.

The SMRT bus, understood to be off-service at the time, was going straight along Jalan Anak Bukit towards Clementi Road, when the vehicles collided at the traffic junction. The bus driver was not injured.

Photos of the scene showed the SMRT bus with its windscreen badly smashed and glass shards strewn across the road.

The black Mercedes could be seen with dents on its left passenger door.

Police investigations are ongoing. ST has contacted SMRT for more information.

On Thursday evening, National University of Singapore undergraduate Kathy Ong, 19, died after the Silvercab taxi she was in collided with a car.

Ms Ong was a rear-seat passenger in the taxi with three other friends, who were all injured in the accident at the junction of Clementi Road and Commonwealth Avenue West.

On coming car was also travelling much too fast, at least 80kph I think even though traffic lights were in his favour...
The videos show everything that is wrong with Singapore.... car drivers who drive too fast and expect others to follow the rules (station wagon car driver), taxi drivers who blindly copy car on his left who himself was a risk taker (should have given way to oncoming station wagon, avoided collision himself by hairs breath) and both drivers and passengers who discount the importance of wearing seat belts and the authorities who insists on allowing discretionary right turns before green turning arrow is shown because it saves drivers time (aka increases GDP) but do nothing to properly police the roads for reckless and inconsiderate drivers who fail to slow down approaching junctions and zebra crossings, fail to give way/ clearence when overtaking cyclists, hog the yellow box and have tinted windows so nobody can have any eye contact with the driver...

Drivers involved in fatal traffic accidents in Clementi and Bukit Timah arrested

The drivers involved in a recent spate of fatal traffic accidents have been arrested.

The three accidents - in Clementi, Bukit Timah and Ang Mo Kio - all occurred in the last week and caused five deaths in total.

There have been 38 traffic fatalities between Jan 1 and April 25, a 12 per cent increase from last year, said the Singapore Police Force on Thursday (April 26).

Motorists failing to keep a proper lookout, not having proper control of the vehicle and pedestrians jaywalking or crossing roads without paying attention were listed as the top causes.

The police said accidents at road junctions "remain a grave concern". Two of the three recent fatal accidents took place at junctions.

They also urged motorists to abstain from speeding and pedestrians to stay alert even if they have the right of way.

In the past week, two young women were killed in separate accidents.

Ms Kathy Ong, a 19-year-old National University Singapore undergraduate, died after the taxi she was riding in collided with a car on April 19 at the junction of Commonwealth Avenue West and Clementi Road.

On April 22, a 23-year-old woman was killed in a collision between the car she was a passenger in and an SMRT bus at the junction of Jalan Anak Bukit and Jalan Jurong Kechil.

In both cases the drivers - a 54-year-old taxi driver in the Clementi accident and a 24-year-old woman in the Bukit Timah one - were arrested for causing death by a rash act.

On April 23, an accident involving a lorry, a bus and three pedestrians occurred in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6. All three pedestrians were killed.

The lorry driver has been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving.

Investigations are ongoing for all three cases.
