19% pay cut for President and Prime Minister !!!

According to CNA, this means that in 2009, there will be a 19 per cent fall in the annual salary of the President to S$3.14m and the Prime Minister to S$3.04m. The Ministerial Grade (MR4) salary will fall by 18 per cent to $1.57m, and salaries at the entry Superscale grade (SR9) will fall by 12 per cent to S$353,000.

Our Prime Minister will take a pay cut of more than S$700,000 from S$3.76 to S$3.04 million dollars which matter little to him since it was noted that “he has donated and will continue to donate all increases in his own salary over the level before the April 2007 revisions to good causes for five years.”

What is the Prime Minister’s annual pay before the April 2007 revisions ? Assuming that it is S$2 million dollars a year, he will still be raking in $5,555 of taxpayers’ money DAILY !!! How many Singaporeans bring home more than $5,000 a month ? And this amount is still S$1.4 million dollars more than what U.S. President George Bush is getting !

What about bonus? Also, to have such a high salary to start with suggests that Singapore can no longer increase its GDP past 200 billion SD. In fact, there is a high possibility of the double digit shrink I am forecasting. The only way out of this mess is to make sure Singaporeans generally have stable jobs as priority, before they play around with immigrants. Or else, I am telling you knives and daggers at PAP will happen. Right now the PAP is very picky in employing Singaporeans out of national security interests fears. This effectively eliminates more than 20% of possible good talent that can solve Singapore's woes. Then the infighting within the PAP for more cushy and point finger positions further cannibalizes the system, with immigrants killing Singapore. Not every immigrant citizen is totally loyal and free of foreign government support to sabotage Singapore.

Singapore cabinet ministers and senior civil servants will take a pay cut of up to 19% next year because of the city-state's weakening economic performance, the government said Monday, Kyodo reported Monday.



Singapore cabinet ministers are among the highest paid in the world as their salaries have in recent years been pegged to a benchmark of top earners in the private sector such as company presidents, lawyers, bankers and accountants.



The annual pay of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, said to be the world's highest paid leader, will be cut by 19% to S$3.04 million (about $2.07 million), the Public Service Commission, which comes under Lee's office, said on its website. The pay of other Cabinet ministers will be cut by 18% to S$1.57 million.



The salaries of Cabinet ministers and senior officials are closely tied to the country's economic performance under a new policy introduced last year.

For the record, Aussie PM Kevin Rudd had already froze any federal wage increase for his cabinet and himself for more than a year, since he took over from Howard.

And for such a good PM, he's barely earning 10% of what LHL is. And LHL is still running a smaller country than Kevin Rudd.

To add: the fallacy that if we pay our politicians excessively means we reduce corruption is wrong. After all, GM, Ford and Chrysler has had paid their CEOs massive wages, and gave them each a private jet, and yet it can be obvious to say that the CEOs are massively incompetent, and morally corrupted.
