Temasek asks anti-Govt website to change name

Company sends letter to doctor linked to Temasek Review site

Dr Joseph Ong (above), a general practitioner, is reported to be the man behind the Temasek Review website. When contacted by The Straits Times yesterday, Dr Ong said he had responded to Temasek Holdings via e-mail. <!-- story content : start -->
TEMASEK Holdings has written to the alleged founder of socio-political website Temasek Review asking him to change its name.
The investment company said the term Temasek Review is 'indisputably associated' with it and the website's use of the same name was a bid to 'capitalise on the goodwill and reputation' associated with it.
In a letter to Dr Joseph Ong released to the media yesterday, Temasek head of strategic relations Goh Yong Siang noted that the website's original name was 'The Wayang Party', and it was only sometime last year that it was renamed Temasek Review.
Mr Goh pointed out that Temasek Review had been the name of Temasek Holdings' annual report since 2004 and was 'well-known and indisputably associated with Temasek'.
The Straits Times understands that Temasek had wanted to ask the website to change its name since last year, but there was nobody it could write to because everyone associated with it has been anonymous.
Earlier this year, the company renamed its annual report Temasek Report, but denied that it had anything to do with the website.
The website is known for virulently anti-government posts and has hidden behind a shroud of anonymity and pseudonyms for the three-plus years of its existence. Its administrators have consistently declined media interviews.
Last Saturday, The New Paper reported that Dr Joseph Ong, a general practitioner, was the founder of the website.
It drew this conclusion while investigating his role in putting up posters around Yishun last year, asking for MP Lee Bee Wah to step down as president of the Singapore Table Tennis Association.
A grassroots leader had lodged a police report about the posters, which showed Ms Lee's face superimposed on a toilet bowl. Dr Ong was questioned by the police and issued a warning last month for the offence of 'intentional harassment'.
The New Paper said that Dr Ong admitted his involvement with the website to the police, as well as to friends.
A former student of Raffles Institution and Raffles Junior College, Dr Ong completed his medical degree at the National University of Singapore. He is 32, single and works for the Healthway Medical chain.
Contacted by The Straits Times yesterday, Dr Ong said he had responded to Temasek Holdings via e-mail.
He said that while he was involved with the website in the past, he had stopped being involved since last year.
Of the posters of MP Lee Bee Wah, he said he regretted the incident, adding that it was merely a 'publicity stunt' and not a 'smear campaign', as The New Paper had termed it.
'It was a mere 'publicity stunt' to generate news to write about and I am sorry if my action had caused the MP any distress,' he said.
He also said that he handed over the temasekreview.com domain name to another website writer last year, but declined to name the person.
The website's administrators, meanwhile, have rebuffed requests for interviews this past week.
A posting by 'editor' 'Pamela Tian' denied that Dr Ong was part of its editorial team, and said that the website is run on a voluntary basis by a group of overseas Singaporeans. Managing editor 'Molina Han' claims to be based in Panama.
In his letter to Dr Ong, Temasek Holdings' Mr Goh said that Temasek 'has no issue with the desire to foster and facilitate serious debate and discourse and to provide news of socio-political affairs of Singapore'.
It was however 'misleading and irresponsible' for the website to capitalise on a name associated with Temasek Holdings.
He asked the website operators to live up to their claim to stand for the principles of 'transparency, accountability and responsibility'.
The website's administrators did not respond to queries.

'Misleading and irresponsible'

<!-- by line --><!-- end by line -->
<!-- end left side bar --><!-- story content : start -->
TEXT of letter from Temasek Holdings to Dr Joseph Ong:
'The 9 October 2010 edition of The New Paper reported that you informed the police that you are the founder of the so-called 'Temasek Review' website.
The purpose of this letter is to request, if you are the founder of the website, that the website stop using the good name of 'Temasek Review' and that its name be changed.
As is well known, Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited ('Temasek') has been using the name 'Temasek Review' for our annual performance review reports since 2004. Electronic versions of the Temasek Review reports also appear on our company website. The Temasek Review is meant for Temasek to share and review our performance annually with our Singapore as well as international stakeholders. The name 'Temasek Review' has become well known and is indisputably associated with Temasek.
It also appears from the report that sometime in 2009, a decision was made to change the name of the website from 'The Wayang Party' to the 'The Temasek Review'.
According to the website, its aim is 'To provide space for columnists and reader comments from across the political spectrum to foster, facilitate and promote serious debate and discourse...' and to provide 'coverage on socio-political affairs of Singapore'.
Temasek has no issue with the desire to foster and facilitate serious debate and discourse and to provide news of socio-political affairs of Singapore. That is the right of every Singaporean.
However, it appears that this has been done by capitalising on the goodwill and reputation of our 'Temasek Review' for the website in place of its original name. This is misleading and irresponsible.
The website also claims that its editorial position is based, among other things, 'on the principles of transparency, accountability and responsibility...'.
It should live up to its own words and do the responsible thing to change the name of the website, and not misuse 'Temasek Review' for the website.'

___________Patriot Air files for bankruptcy just 11 months after launch[/size]
Dallas Business Journal - by Margaret Allen Staff Writer
http://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/stories/2002/09/30/story4.html?q=goh%20yong%20siang
NORTH DALLAS — Eleven months after Patriot Air roared into business, the Dallas-based charter airline that was considered a "very risky" venture by its investors has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization.
The investors voluntarily filed the petition Sept. 18 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of Texas. The suit lists more than 90 creditors, with $4.47 million owed to the top 20 unsecured creditors.
That list includes Pace Airlines, Winston Salem, N.C., which was hired to operate Patriot's leased Boeing 737 airplanes. Pace is owed $2.4 million.
Also, San Francisco-based Triton Aviation Services Ltd. is owed $1.65 million for aircraft leases.
Patriot disputes the debt with Pace, which operates one of the largest charter fleets in the Southeast.
Patriot was to pay Pace a variable monthly fee based on consumption. Its three leased Boeing 737s worked like on-demand taxis do to resorts and casinos in North America.
The airline's sole shareholder is Beta Capital Group L.L.C. The Dallas-based investment group of seven wealthy businessmen started in June 2001.
Besides Dallas businessman Bruce Leadbetter, the other Patriot partners are: Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Goh Yong Siang, former head of the Singapore Air Force; Christopher Bancroft, a director of Dow Jones Co., and vice chairman of PBS; Charles Jarvie, former president of Dr Pepper Co.; Michael Jordan, former president of PepsiCo; David Kellogg, a former top executive with Bank of America and Citicorp; and Patrick Long, formerly a partner with Patton Boggs L.L.P.
When Patriot was formed in October 2001, Leadbetter, chairman of Beta Capital, said the investment was "well into seven figures."
This week, Leadbetter said Patriot failed because Pace had internal problems that downgraded service.
"They took on more business than they could in effect manage," said Leadbetter. "We couldn't have a sub-standard operation with the customers we serve."
Patriot, which he said was profitable, will seek another operator and should know in 90 days if it will restart.
An industry source, however, said Sept. 11's terrorism attacks severely dampened casino business. So while Patriot originally planned to go into service in October 2001, it didn't actually do so until early in 2002, said the source.
An executive with the parent company of Pace denied the charter airline was to blame for Patriot's problems. Pace provided all the crews Patriot hired whenever the airline wanted them, according to Dean Harton, president and CEO of Piedmont Hawthorne Holdings Inc., the parent company.
"Any time they wanted to fly we flew them, with the crews they hired," said Harton. "But they quit paying, and we quit flying them. They were seriously past due and made some payments along, but they never did catch up. We finally put them in default of their contract."
Other unsecured creditors in North Texas include aircraft maintenance company DalFort Aerospace L.P., based at Dallas Love Field, a company Leadbetter founded then sold in 1997. Patriot owes DalFort $47,039. In addition, Aegis Service Co. L.L.C. in Dallas is owed $47,152; Worldwide Flight Service in Dallas is owed $19,435; and AIS in Dallas is owed $10,976.

Your channel of truth doesn't verify what it post on its website. It is a free for all website and as long as your story (regardless truth or not) can gain readership, it would be published.

Straits Times have no reason to whack a free internet world. It cannot be justified.

Straits Times itself is unobjective and outdated news that lose out to internet news

Straits Times is pro-establisment and ALWAYS carried out unfair reporting about opposition parties. They cannot be acting like pot calling the kettle black.

ST, is a political paper.

ST is biased.

ST is helmed by PAP guru.

ST is paid by taxpayers

ST is destroying Singapore by not telling the complete truth.

ST is not make up of reporters but ISA people, foreign trash, PAP dogs, PM office workers and anyone whom PAP can transfer at their whims and fancies.

Most importantly, ST is ranked at the world lowest plateau for its lack of freedom in reportings. It unflattering ranking has became the most iconic symbol of Singapore failure.

Reasonable observations.

Let TR alone if there is nothing wrong with the PAP system.

Of course if there is something very wrong with PAP, then we see the reason behind all the fuss !

The media need to be managed and counter-enthralled if opposition wants to battle on seriously. LKY is going sooner or later, many old media guard dogs are ailing and going along too. Befriend the media and get favourable reports. Yes, at this point in time, only as favourable as possible, not absolute. But there've been more and more opposition-favouring reports in recent years. Go scold them for only giving something you want but not everything you want, you'd look childish and they'd take away your candy too, without needing behest from the atop. This is the same case as to how opposition should handle police and civil service. Remember, if the objective is one day takeover government, these people would become your servants.

SG press freedom ranking status is ranked 133rd. U might want to update your database.

And I think U misunderstood Press freedom ranking. Press freedom ranking and credibility of a news media is 1 and the same. Press freedom have more to do with government policies suppressing free press, it also takes into account the safety of local reporters, whether the location is high risk.

It doesn't exactly have anything to do with credible news media or whether the news agency is bias or not. If they care about credibility of news media, the US for example which have numerous news channels who are very bias towards 1 political party or another or tons and tons of tabloid news media which basically is like TR, likes to pull Bullshit from their asses, shouldn't rank any higher then SG.

The current ranking is only temporal, it will slip further thus no need for fresh update. That is why I said ST is like pot calling the kettle black. Besides, they are legally allowed to freely distribute the paper and readers paid a price for it literally - for uncredible news. Luckily we have internet world to help adjust what is not reported for a complete picture. Singapore tabloits are all owned by the same party using tax resources, internet news are owned by individual thus not subjected to ranking. It is rediculous for a well-fed pig who learned to walk on two legs now mocking at other animals walking on 4 legs.

Bro, if TR is a joke, there would be no readership .

Besides, no one force anyone to read OPINIONS .

So far, Opinion in TR has attracted high viewership, people can forget about TR if they find it a joke.

However , they are all descending at TR already, even the dogs online are barking !

The truth is out there. There is no need to prove anything.......it is up to the public to decide what is truth and what is falsehood.
