Nee Soon GRC MP Lee Bee Wah said: “It is not easy to convince (Singaporeans) because people will think that ‘every day I go to work, (it) is already so crowded’.” She added: “No point talking to them about all these theories ... If you don’t help them to see, resolve the current problem, they won’t be convinced. My suggestion is that you have to resolve the current problem first.” Some netizens felt the numbers were “frightening”, others noted that infrastructure today has yet to catch up with demand. An overseas Singaporean even wrote that he would stay away and not return to the Republic. Amid the chorus of doubters were some netizens who viewed the White Paper more positively, with one pointing out the need for a base of working-age people to support the growing ageing population. Social and policy researchers suggested specifying the types of skills eeded from foreigners and up Singaporeans’ sense of security to get the public behind the new population projections.

People adapt when they have to. Given a choice to choose, more space if preferred. I only enjoy crowds when attending festivals, concerts, sports events, most other times, vast openness, forests, and natural surrounding are much more relaxing and soothing.

I have worked in Osaka ( Kadoma ) during the 80s and HK for a brief period in the earily 90s before HK was handed back to PRC and I have to agree with you but all that time I dare not take their subways during the morning peak hours. I usually hitch a ride from 1 of the locals working there or by the company transport. I have always wondered if you are stuck in the middle of the carrage and you want to alight at your stop how? Its so packed that you can hardly even move.

I have worked in Orchard Road, Raffles Place, Jurong, Tampines, Shenton Way, Ang Mo Kio ....... and I can attest to the fact that Singapore is very crowded.
